What is a no experience robotics engineer?

A No Experience Robotics Engineer job is an entry-level position designed for individuals with little to no professional experience in robotics. These roles often focus on learning, assisting senior engineers, and working on basic tasks such as coding, assembling components, or testing robotic systems. Employers typically seek candidates with a relevant degree or coursework in robotics, mechanical engineering, or computer science. Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn are essential. Many companies offer internships or junior positions to help beginners gain hands-on experience in the field.

What kinds of projects or tasks can I expect to work on as a no experience robotics engineer?

As a No Experience Robotics Engineer, you’ll typically start by assisting senior engineers with tasks like assembling robotic components, running basic tests, and troubleshooting hardware or software issues. You may also contribute to documentation, data collection, and simple programming assignments, gradually advancing to more complex projects as you gain experience. Most teams foster a collaborative environment, offering guidance and mentoring to help you build your technical skills. Learning by doing is a core part of the role, and there are frequent opportunities to get hands-on exposure to real-world robotics systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the no experience robotics engineer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a No Experience Robotics Engineer, a foundational knowledge of programming (such as Python or C++), basic electronics, and mechanical design is essential, often demonstrated through coursework or self-driven projects. Familiarity with tools like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, CAD software, and version control systems like Git can be highly beneficial, along with beginner-level industry certifications such as Intro to Robotics courses. Strong problem-solving abilities, a willingness to learn, teamwork, and effective communication are key soft skills for this entry-level role. These competencies enable new engineers to quickly adapt, contribute to collaborative projects, and grow within the rapidly evolving robotics industry.

ASM

Hillsboro, OR

Full-time

Job description

As a Field Service Engineer, you'll bring the technical discipline, precision, and equipment expertise you developed in the military to support ASM's advanced semiconductor tools and help our customers keep their fabs running at peak performance. You'll work with the same mindset you relied on in missioncritical environments-applying your engineering background and realworld troubleshooting experience to technologies that power AI, 5G, cloud computing, and nextgeneration devices. This is a chance to leverage the skills you gained maintaining complex systems in the field and continue building your technical mastery in a rapidly growing, hightech industry.

In this role, you'll operate at the center of cuttingedge semiconductor manufacturing. It's an ideal opportunity for veterans and transitioning service members who have supported sophisticated mechanical, electrical, or electronic systems and want to apply that expertise in a worldclass technology environment where every day brings new challenges to solve.

From day one, you'll receive structured training and handson guidance from experienced engineers onsite. You'll work with vacuum systems, plasma, chemical delivery, robotics, sensors, advanced metrology, and complex hardwaresoftware interactions-equipment that will feel familiar if you've maintained avionics, electronics, propulsion, navigation, comms, radar, robotics, or similar military systems. Your contributions will directly impact tool performance, system uptime, and customer success, forming a strong foundation for longterm growth and a variety of career paths within ASM.

Shifts available:

  • Shift 4 (6pm-6am)- Sun-Tu and every other Saturday
  • Shift 6 (6pm- 6am)- Wed-Fri and every other Saturday

What you will be working on

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair ASM semiconductor equipment at customer sites
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and process issues in collaboration with senior engineering staff
  • Deliver responsive, customerfocused service with a strong commitment to safety and operational discipline
  • Working in cleanroom environments while following strict safety and quality standards
  • Assisting, identifying and contributing to continuous improvement efforts
  • Participate in escalations and crossfunctional problemsolving
  • Work on an assigned shift schedule supporting 24/7 manufacturing operations

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or related field
  • Hands-on technical experience maintaining, repairing, or troubleshooting complex mechanical, electrical, or electronic systems
  • Proven ability to diagnose complex system faults, follow technical procedures with precision, and maintain equipment in missioncritical environments
  • Experience working under strict safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and highreliability operational standards
  • Comfort working in shift-based environments where readiness, accountability, and teamwork are essential
  • Demonstratedability to stay calm under pressure, adapt quickly to changing conditions, and take ownership of equipment performance in demanding situations
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic and electromechanical schematics
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and disciplined adherence to safety
  • Ability to work in a cleanroom environment
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
  •  Proficiency with Microsoft Office

What sets you apart

  • Experience with equipment, gas handling, or highprecision machinery
  • Experience writing or updating technical documentation
  • Background in customerfacing or technical support roles
  • Familiarity with structured problemsolving, data analysis, or statistical methodologies
  • Military experience such as Avionics Technician, Electronics Technician, Nuclear Machinist Mate, Satellite/Communications Systems Technician, or similar specialties

Why join ASM?

With us, you will have strong longterm growth potential at the forefront of semiconductor technology. Your first role as an FSE is the foundation - not necessarily the finish line. With clear pathways into technical leadership, operations, product roles, program management, technical sales and process engineering, ASM gives you the flexibility to grow in the direction that fits you best in an industry that makes AI possible.

2026 is the year to join ASM as a Field Service Engineer. Apply now!Â
