Job description

The Job San Bernardino County Library System is a highly interactive and fast-paced customer service environment. The Phelan Memorial Library is hiring for a Librarian II, who is responsible for planning, directing, and supervising professional library activities and services. Responsibilities also include outreach, developing special interest programs, and developing collections to meet community interests.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The San Bernardino County Library system is a dynamic network of 32 branches that serve a diverse population over a vast geographic area. With a dedicated team of talented individuals, the San Bernardino County Library strives to provide equal access information, technology, programs, and services for all county residents.

Work Schedule: These positions require regular weekend and evening work schedules. Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation. Physical Requirements: Physical requirements of the position include the following: frequent reaching and bending; continuous walking and standing; continuous pushing and pulling; constant lifting of materials and books up to 25 pounds and frequent lifting up to 75 pounds.

Minimum Requirements Candidates must meet the ONE (1) of required options: OPTION 1: EDUCATION: A completed bachelor's degree or 120 semester units (180 quarter units) from an accredited college or university.

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of full-time equivalent lead worker or supervisory experience in a library, retail, educational or customer service related industry. OPTION 2: EDUCATION: A completed Associate degree or 60 semester units (90 quarter units) from an accredited college or university. EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of full-time equivalent lead worker or supervisory experience in a library, retail, educational or customer service related industry.

Note: Qualifying degrees must be completed at a college or university accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. In addition, degrees completed outside of the U.S. must be accompanied by an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service indicating equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at the college or university accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education

Desired Qualifications The ideal candidate will have a passion for serving youth, experience creating, implementing, and monitoring a wide array of programs for children up to 14 years of age, and strong leadership and oral communication skills. A Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) is highly desirable.
