What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) employee, and why are they important?

To thrive as an NHDOT employee, you generally need a background in civil engineering, transportation planning, or construction management, usually with a relevant degree and, for some roles, a Professional Engineer (PE) license. Familiarity with CAD software, GIS systems, and state/federal transportation regulations is often required. Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills help employees coordinate projects and respond effectively to challenges. These competencies ensure the safe, efficient delivery and maintenance of transportation infrastructure that meets public needs and regulatory standards.

It is a state government agency responsible for maintaining and improving the transportation infrastructure in New Hampshire, including roads, bridges, airports, and public transit systems.
