Global Impact Group LLC is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and ISO 9001 / ISO 17100 certified provider of interpretation and translation services. We provide secure, high-quality language support in more than 80 spoken and signed languages for USCIS and other federal agencies.
We are seeking Acateco (also known as Jakaltek) Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Acateco, an indigenous Mayan language spoken in the Huehuetenango region of Guatemala, is a rare but critical language often required in asylum and immigration cases.
Responsibilities
  • Provide real-time Acateco (Jakaltek) ↔ English telephonic interpretation for USCIS interviews, hearings, and asylum proceedings.
  • Interpret accurately, impartially, and with cultural sensitivity in immigration and legal contexts.
  • Follow USCIS/DHS interpreter ethics and confidentiality standards.
  • Handle both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge interpretation requests.
  • Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and quality assurance audits.
Qualifications
  • Native or near-native fluency in Acateco (Jakaltek) and English.
  • 2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, asylum, community, NGO, or government preferred).
  • Strong cultural knowledge of Guatemalan Mayan communities.
  • Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and impartiality standards.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 clearance.
