Job Summary
The Kitchen Manager is responsible for overseeing all back-of-house culinary operations within a high-volume convention center environment. This role ensures efficient kitchen operations, maintains food quality and safety standards, supports large-scale event execution, and leads a team of culinary professionals to deliver exceptional guest experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
  • Manage daily kitchen operations, including food production, preparation, and execution for banquets, concessions, and catered events
  • Oversee setup and breakdown for conventions, conferences, and large-scale events
  • Ensure readiness for high-volume service and shifting event schedules

Team Management
  • Supervise, train, and schedule culinary staff, including cooks, stewards, and support team members
  • Foster a positive, high-performance work environment focused on teamwork and accountability
  • Partner with HR and leadership on hiring, onboarding, and performance management

Food Quality & Safety
  • Ensure all food is prepared and presented according to company standards and client expectations
  • Maintain strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and health regulations (HACCP, local codes)
  • Conduct routine inspections and enforce cleanliness and organization across all kitchen areas

Financial & Inventory Management
  • Monitor food and labor costs to meet budget targets
  • Manage inventory levels, ordering, and vendor relationships
  • Reduce waste and optimize operational efficiency

Client & Event Collaboration
  • Work closely with chefs, event planners, and front-of-house teams to execute client menus and event requirements
  • Support menu planning and customization based on client needs
  • Assist in problem-solving during live events to ensure seamless execution

Qualifications
  • 3-5+ years of kitchen leadership experience in high-volume environments (convention center, hotel, stadium, or large catering operation preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Proven ability to manage large teams and complex operations under pressure
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays based on event demand

Preferred Qualifications
  • Culinary degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience in convention center or large-scale banquet operations
  • ServSafe Certification or equivalent food safety certification
