Job Brief
The Trucking Logistics Dispatch will oversee and manage the operations of Nexus logistics. They will arrange daily schedules and routes of the transportation department to ensure that we meet deadlines that are set by the team to fulfill grain contracts and Deliver Feed and Agronomy Products.
Leadership:
  1. Promote an environment and culture that focuses on fulfilling the mission and core values of Nexus.

  3. Creates key performance indicators and metrics for the team. Communicates the metrics and ensures the team member knows their role in achieving the metrics. Share results with the team.

  6. Addresses performance issues in a timely and consistent manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Develops the plan to provide full-service transportation.
  2. Review and recommend changes to the maintenance of company owned commercial fleet along with coordinating maintenance schedules.
  3. Prepare vehicle accident reports complying with company, state, and federal guidelines.
  4. Assist with budgeting and planning through attending meetings, reviewing reports, and communicating departmental needs and goals to upper management.
  5. Stay abreast of and ensure organization compliance of motor carrier safety regulations through monitoring various transactions and documentation.
  6. Work with Nexus merchandisers to dispatch company owned trucks to assure full utilization of hauling capacity on outbound and inbound loads.
  7. Coordinate with Nexus merchandisers on outside commodity back-hauls to assure maximum use of fleet (hoppers).
  8. Verifies all inter-company freight charges for hauls.
  9. Communicate as necessary with other Nexus support groups involved in the operation of the truck fleet (Accounting, Risk management, Human Resources, etc.)
  10. Gathers needed information on and understanding of customer demands; meets specific needs for transloading, just-in-time shipping, distribution, and fulfillment.
  11. Develop an understanding of Iowa commodity flow.
  12. Understand how to track revenue and expense by truck on a daily and monthly basis.
  13. Ensures product handling and delivery practices meet customer expectations, and daily, weekly, monthly, and annual business objectives.
  14. Recruiting and developing a training program for company drivers.
  15. Responsible for recruiting and building relationships with 3rd party truckers and shippers across multiple commodities and organizations.
  16. Monitors driving habits and corrects any behaviors that dangers the driver or the public
  17. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Five years of experience in the distribution or transportation industry.
  • Excellent managerial and supervisory skills.
  • Self-motivated with the capacity to make sound decisions using information at hand.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and a variety of duties.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient with computer-based management systems for inventory control, shipping operations, and fulfillment services.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
