Nexus Disposal is seeking a dependable, hardworking Truck Pressure Washer / Mechanic Shop General Laborer to support our Fleet Maintenance Department. This position is responsible for thoroughly pressure washing garbage trucks, roll-off containers, heavy equipment, and other company vehicles before they enter the shop for repairs or preventive maintenance.
In addition to washing equipment, this role serves as a general labor floater within the mechanic shop, assisting mechanics with basic shop duties, maintaining a clean and organized work environment, and helping ensure daily operations run efficiently. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys physical work, takes pride in keeping equipment clean, and is eager to learn about heavy-duty truck maintenance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned as business needs require.
Pressure wash garbage trucks, roll-off trucks, containers, trailers, and heavy equipment prior to maintenance and repairs.
Remove mud, grease, oil, trash, and debris from vehicles and equipment.
Ensure equipment is clean and safe for mechanics to perform inspections and repairs.
Maintain the wash bay, pressure washing equipment, and surrounding work areas in a clean and organized condition.
Assist mechanics with general labor tasks as directed.
Retrieve and return tools, parts, and shop materials.
Assist with loading, unloading, and organizing parts and supplies.
Help move vehicles and equipment around the yard when authorized.
Perform basic shop cleanup, including sweeping, trash removal, and maintaining a safe work environment.
Assist with preventive maintenance preparations and miscellaneous repair projects.
Support inventory organization and shop housekeeping.
Follow all company safety policies and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Report damaged equipment, safety hazards, or maintenance concerns to management immediately.
Perform other duties as assigned to support shop operations.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Previous pressure washing, automotive, heavy equipment, landscaping, construction, or general labor experience preferred but not required.
Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
Ability to safely operate pressure washing equipment.
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, climb, push, pull, and stand for extended periods.
Ability to work around heavy equipment, moving vehicles, water, grease, and cleaning chemicals.
Ability to work in hot, cold, wet, dusty, and noisy environments.
Must be able to safely perform physically demanding work throughout the shift.
Work Environment
Outdoor and indoor shop environment.
Exposure to weather conditions, loud noise, diesel equipment, oils, grease, and cleaning chemicals.
Required use of PPE including safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, and other equipment as needed.
Preferred Skills
Experience using commercial pressure washers.
Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
Experience working around heavy trucks or construction equipment.
Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
