Job description

The YouVersion Data Engineer will develop and build data pipelines and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) that lead to increased engagement and growth through the Bible App across the globe. The YouVersion Data Engineer role will work across technical teams within the organization, including but not limited to Cyber Security, Core Services and Software Engineers on Product teams. The Data Engineer will be responsible for driving data awareness and providing the analytics teams with actionable data. This role will utilize systems-thinking, will require broad technical experience, and an eye for efficiency to aid in delivering the YouVersion strategy.

What You'll Do

Data Awareness

  • Drive data awareness and provide the analytics teams with trends and actionable recommendations/information.
  • Collaborate with platform and product teams to ensure all relevant data is being collected.

Data Strategy Execution

  • Align data needs to business objectives, formulate a data roadmap.
  • Prepare data for predictive and prescriptive modeling.
  • Planning, building, and delivering highly reliable ETL processes.
  • Planning, building, and developing real-time analytics through data pipelines.

Other Responsibilities 

  • Manage user events in the YouVersion bible app to bring our data governance to the next level.
  • Engage as an active contributor within our agile development process.
  • Take ownership of projects and oversee them with minimal direction.
  • Manage schedules and duties to efficiently meet the needs of the organization in the pursuit of leading others to become fully devoted follower of Christ.
What You Bring
  • Experience: 3-5 years of related work experience.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree + advanced certification.
  • Ability to self-motivate, make independent decisions and problem solve with innovation.
  • Effective at multi-tasking and time management to meet strict deadlines while remaining flexible and open to
  • change.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills to clearly explain complicated processes and foster
  • Partnerships.
  • Strong presentation creation and facilitation skills.
  • Effective at process and organizational management to coordinate, structure and provide vision to projects.
  • Skilled in Python, Go, Java, C++ or other general-purpose programming languages.
  • Proficient with data orchestration tools such as Airflow, Luigi, dbt, etc.
  • Proficient in Database Management Systems, such as Postgres or MySQL.
  • Experienced with Google Cloud Platform or other cloud data solutions such as AWS or Azure.
  • Understanding of user event data collection products such as Firebase, Flurry or Posthog.
  • Great at problem solving complicated technological issues .
  • Strong Analytical Skills.
  • Strong Critical and Strategic Thinking Skills.
