Automotive Group Controller
$140,000 - $180,000+ Annually
Executive-Level, Multi-Dealership Leadership Opportunity

An esteemed Automotive Dealer Group in the greater Hampton / Newport News area is currently seeking an Automotive Group Controller to lead accounting and financial operations across multiple dealerships. In this key leadership role, you'll oversee financial reporting, accounting controls, cash management, reconciliations, compliance, and dealership accounting teams while partnering with senior leadership to ensure accurate financials and support the continued growth of the organization.

What You'll Lead:

  • Oversee accounting and financial operations across multiple dealership locations
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of monthly financial statements and manufacturer reporting
  • Manage and develop Controllers, Office Managers, and accounting team members
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with company, manufacturer, and regulatory requirements
  • Oversee general ledger activity, account reconciliations, cash management, floorplan, receivables, payables, and inventory accounting
  • Review dealership financial performance and identify discrepancies, trends, and opportunities for improvement
  • Partner with ownership, General Managers, and senior leadership on financial planning, budgeting, and operational decisions
  • Establish consistent accounting procedures and best practices across locations
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Work with external auditors, tax professionals, financial institutions, and other business partners as needed

 

What We're Looking For:

  • Proven experience as a Controller or Office Manager in the automotive field or related industry
  • CFO or Senior Accountant within a dealership setting will also be considered
  • Strong understanding of dealership accounting, financial statements, manufacturer reporting, and internal controls
  • Multi-store or dealership group accounting experience strongly preferred
  • Experience leading and developing dealership accounting personnel
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger, floorplan, inventory, cash management, AP/AR, and month-end processes
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both accounting teams and senior operational leadership
  • Experience with dealership management systems (DMS)
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
  • CPA or similar professional designation is a plus, but not required
