Job description

Built's Mission: Connect and simplify doing business in real estate.
Built is the AI-powered platform transforming the way real estate is financed, developed, and managed. Purpose-built for real estate and construction, Built began by fixing construction draw management for lenders and has grown into a comprehensive operating system addressing some of the industry's most complex challenges. Today, Built is a partner to more than 350 lenders, over 80,000 borrowers and owners, and thousands of contractors, powering 86,000 active projects valued at more than $300 billion. Learn more at getbuilt.com.
Software Engineer, Internal Tooling
The Real Story: We're hiring a hungry engineer fresh out of school who wants to move the needle from day one. This is a solo role building the operational nervous system for our implementation team - the automations, workflows, and tools that let 20+ people move 10x faster.
You'll own outcomes that directly impact our Time-to-Value and revenue. You'll work in ambiguity, ship fast, and learn the construction finance business while you build. This is not a junior support role. You're the only person writing code here. You move.
What You'll Actually Do
  • Build internal tools and automations using AI and agentic frameworks (Claude, LLMs, MCP servers) on top of Built's bapps infrastructure
  • Ship fast and iterate-if it works and people use it, it's good. If it doesn't, kill it and build the next thing
  • Work from real operational pain points (your team will tell you exactly what's broken)
  • Own the full stack: design, build, deploy, measure, iterate based on what actually gets used
  • Learn the real estate finance domain by shipping solutions, not by reading docs
  • Partner with product and engineering to understand our architecture and use it

What Success Looks Like
  • Your code directly reduces manual hours on the implementation team (and you'll measure it)
  • You ship your first tool within your first 30 days
  • You get comfortable shipping and iterating quickly with real feedback
  • People on your team actually use the things you build - adoption matters
  • You grow from "new grad" to "engineer who owns critical internal systems" in 12-18 months

Required
  • Recent Computer Science graduate or software engineer with up to ~1 year of experience (including internships, co-ops, or substantial academic projects).
  • 0-2 years of professional or serious personal project experience (bootcamp counts; passion projects count)
  • Ability to write clean code in any modern language (you'll pick up our stack)
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ownership - you'll get a problem statement, not a spec
  • Genuine curiosity about the business - why we're automating this, what it enables downstream
  • Speed and shipping bias over perfection

Preferred
  • Hands-on with AI/LLM tools or agentic frameworks (even a personal project)
  • Experience with APIs and integrations
  • Ability to identify inefficiencies and solve them independently

Tech Stack You'll Use TypeScript, Next.js, React, PostgreSQL, and AWS IAC. You don't need to know all of these coming in - you'll learn them. The bapps team (senior engineers building core infrastructure) will do code review and coaching, so you're not completely solo technically. You ship, they validate and help you level up.
What This Is Really For Our implementation needs have grown 3x faster than we can hire. Instead of hiring 5 more ops people, we're building tools to eliminate the work. You're the person who makes that possible. You're not supporting a team. You're unlocking a team.
This role is the fastest path to 3+ years of experience in 18 months. You'll learn the codebase, the business, how to ship in a fast-growing startup, and how to measure impact-all while working solo with real autonomy.
Built's salary range for this position is $75,000 - $115,000 USD per year. The pay range is designed to accommodate upward mobility in the role, therefore it encompasses the full span of proficiency levels for this role and we believe that the midpoint of the range is competitive in the market. Salary is just one component of Built's total compensation package for employees. Your total rewards package at Built will include equity, top-notch medical, dental and vision coverage, an unlimited PTO policy, and other benefits.
Travel Requirement: Remote employees are expected to travel to Nashville (or a company-designated location) at least twice a year for gatherings like Connect Week. Additional travel may be required based on your role and business needs.
Perks:
  • The rare opportunity to radically disrupt a $1.5T industry
  • Competitive benefits including: uncapped vacation [US ONLY], medical, dental & vision insurance
  • Robust compensation package, including equity in the form of stock options
  • Learning Grant program to support ongoing professional development
  • 401k with match and expedited vesting [US ONLY]
