Software Engineer

Etegent Technologies is a defense-focused technology company with offices in Beavercreek and Blue Ash, OH. We are a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and management professionals dedicated to developing and commercializing AI/ML/Software solutions that address our customers' most significant challenges and opportunities.

Most important to us are our culture and values. Etegent's culture embodies respect, authenticity, collaboration, flexibility, curiosity, and fun.

The Candidate:

More so than seeking a candidate with specific training and experience, Etegent seeks a special type of person; someone with an innate curiosity and passion for learning and understanding, tempered by a recognition of the pragmatic constraints inherent in developing real solutions to real problems. They are flexible and adaptable, having the desire and ability to learn new skills and develop new capabilities to take on challenges outside their current realm of experience. We are seeking very sharp, curious, well-rounded, adaptable people who can learn and grow as required to confront the challenges at hand.

The Position:

Etegent is seeking a Software Engineer to help transition data exploitation algorithms from R&D into useable software to benefit our Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC) customers. This opportunity will involve application software development from conceptualization and implementation to delivery and sustainment for DoD and IC user groups. This position is based in our Dayton office with some work performed on-site in our customers' facilities.

The ideal candidate will have experience in all phases of the software development lifecycle, be detail oriented, and have a passion for creating software solutions to enhance the capabilities of others. Experience working on-site to support either AFRL or NASIC is preferable. The immediate focus will be working on projects in signal processing, algorithm efficiency, webstack, databasing, infrastructure and deployment.

Job responsibilities:

  • Write efficient, modular, and well-documented code.
  • Collaborate with machine learning scientists and engineers building data analytics tools.
  • Develop customized tool sets to accelerate machine learning data curation and quality control including machine assisted data labeling and quality checks.
  • Develop reliable machine learning pipelines to support research, training, evaluation, and deployment.
  • Build visualizations of complex numerical and scientific data.
  • Develop signal processing chains and algorithms to process large sensor data volumes with near real-time availability of results.
  • Design and implement optimized, low-level code on embedded hardware
  • Design and implement end user applications that leverage machine learning algorithms.
  • Build and deploy machine learning systems/computer vision systems for analysts.
  • Architect user interfaces/APIs for sensor simulation, exploitation, and analytics.
  • Identify architectures and tool sets to support design implementations and ways to optimize throughput.
  • Develop database schema and application interfaces to scale solutions on high performance computing environments (HPC/Cloud)
  • Assist in monitoring and directing project schedules, resources, and costs.
  • Report on software development status and demonstrate software to customers.
  • Build and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines for multiple projects.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or computer-related engineering field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in Software Engineering.
  • Experience working with relational SQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL)
  • Strong knowledge of Python, and common data science / ML packages (e.g., NumPy, PyTorch)
  • Experience or knowledge in Machine Learning and Machine Learning Pipelines.
  • Experience analyzing user requirements and translating to technical designs.
  • Ability to understand the requirements of designing or transitioning software in a production environment
  • Capacity to come up to speed quickly on different algorithms.
  • Familiarity with geospatial standards, GIS applications, or geospatial data formats (e.g., GeoJSON, KML, Shapefiles).
  • Strong knowledge of C++, as well as GPUs and other embedded hardware
  • Experience with web development and common frameworks (e.g., React, TypeScript).
  • Knowledge and experience with WebGL, Web Map Service (WMS) and RESTful interfaces.
  • OpenGL, QT framework, and Web Services experience.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Welcomes a challenge: Seeks out opportunities and does not shy away from adversity.
  • Collaborative: Recognizes the team that is supporting them behind the scenes and works to regularly understand others' needs and communicates frequent updates.
