• $42.18/hour – min of 5 years of neurosurgery coding experience required
• Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

ROLE IMPACTThe Senior NeurosurgerySpecialty Coderensures accurate and compliant physician/professional fee (ProFee) coding that supports reimbursement integrity and minimizes denials. This role reviews complex neurosurgical clinical documentation, assigns ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, and maintains a coding accuracy rate of 95% or higher. Success is measured by audit performance, denial reduction, regulatory compliance, and timely coding of highly specialized neurosurgical services.
Key Responsibilities• Review and analyze neurosurgery physician documentation to assign accurate ICD-10-CM (diagnosis) and CPT (procedure) codes in accordance with payer, CMS, and regulatory guidelines
• Code complex neurosurgical procedures, including cranial, spinal, peripheral nerve, and stereotactic procedures, while ensuring appropriate modifier usage and documentation support
• Abstract patient and provider data within Epic EMR and related coding systems to ensure accurate billing and reimbursement
• Maintain coding accuracy of 95% or higher and identify documentation deficiencies or discrepancies requiring provider clarification
• Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI), physicians, and revenue cycle teams to resolve coding edits, denials, and reimbursement inquiries
• Stay current on coding updates, payer policies, National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits, and industry best practices related to neurosurgery physician services
Minimum Qualifications• Active coding certification (CPC, CCS-P, or specialty equivalent required) – Not open to apprentices
• At least 2 years of neurosurgery coding experience required
• 5+ years of neurosurgery coding experience preferred for specialty pay rate consideration
• Experience with physician (professional fee) coding in a healthcare setting
• Strong understanding of complex surgical coding, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to neurosurgery
• Candidate must have a laptop and two monitors available to work from
Core Tools & Systems• Epic EMR (preferred) or comparable Electronic Medical Record (EMR/EHR) systems
• ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and NCCI coding guidelines and reference tools
• Practice management and billing systems
• Microsoft Office or comparable productivity software
Preferred Skills• Strong attention to detail and coding accuracy
• Ability to interpret complex operative reports and physician documentation
• Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment while meeting productivity and quality standards
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
