What is a CPC Apprentice job?

A CPC Apprentice is an entry-level position in medical billing and coding, where individuals gain hands-on experience while working towards becoming a Certified Professional Coder (CPC). Apprentices typically assist in reviewing, coding, and processing medical claims under supervision. This role helps develop proficiency in medical terminology, ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems. The apprenticeship period allows candidates to meet the experience requirements for full CPC certification.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Cpc Apprentice position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CPC Apprentice, you need a foundational understanding of medical terminology, coding principles, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with coding software such as EncoderPro or 3M, and an eagerness to work toward the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification, are important. Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn, and communication skills help apprentices interpret data and collaborate with healthcare professionals effectively. These abilities are crucial for accurately coding patient records, ensuring compliance, and supporting overall healthcare operations.

What is a CPC apprentice?

A CPC apprentice is someone undergoing training to become a Certified Professional Coder, learning medical coding and billing procedures. The apprenticeship typically involves on-the-job experience and may require passing certification exams to qualify for full certification. It is often part of a healthcare or medical office environment.

What types of responsibilities can I expect as a CPC Apprentice?

As a CPC Apprentice, you'll assist in reviewing and accurately coding medical records, typically under the supervision of experienced coders or billing teams. Your daily tasks may involve working with electronic health records (EHRs), learning to apply correct coding standards, and collaborating with healthcare providers to clarify documentation. While you may start with simpler coding assignments, you’ll progressively take on more complex cases as your skills develop. This hands-on experience not only helps you gain practical knowledge but also prepares you to sit for the CPC certification exam and advance your career in medical coding.

Job description

About TaskUs: TaskUs is a provider of outsourced digital services and next-generation customer experience to fast-growing technology companies, helping its clients represent, protect and grow their brands. Leveraging a cloud-based infrastructure, TaskUs serves clients in the fastest-growing sectors, including social media, e-commerce, gaming, streaming media, food delivery, ride-sharing, HiTech, FinTech, and HealthTech.
The People First culture at TaskUs has enabled the company to expand its workforce to approximately 45,000 employees globally. Presently, we have a presence in twenty-three locations across twelve countries, which include the Philippines, India, and the United States.
It started with one ridiculously good idea to create a different breed of Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO)! We at TaskUs understand that achieving growth for our partners requires a culture of constant motion, exploring new technologies, being ready to handle any challenge at a moment's notice, and mastering consistency in an ever-changing world.
What We Offer:At TaskUs, we prioritize our employees' well-being by offering competitive industry salaries and comprehensive benefits packages. Our commitment to a People First culture is reflected in the various departments we have established, including Total Rewards, Wellness, HR, and Diversity. We take pride in our inclusive environment and positive impact on the community. Moreover, we actively encourage internal mobility and professional growth at all stages of an employee's career within TaskUs. Join our team today and experience firsthand our dedication to supporting People First.
We are building the future of clinical documentation, and we need your expert eye to keep it accurate, safe, and reliable.
AI-generated medical notes are transforming healthcare by giving providers their time back, but AI needs human expertise to stay grounded.
As a Medical AI Auditor, you won't be handling traditional billing and coding compliance. Instead, you will act as the ultimate clinical guardrail-reviewing AI-generated behavioral health records to detect "hallucinations" (clinically inaccurate or unsupported content that looks plausible but is factually incorrect).
If you are a detail-obsessed medical coder or clinical documentation specialist who loves the intersection of healthcare and technology, this is your sandbox.
What You'll Do
  • Detect & Correct: Audit AI-generated behavioral health notes against source session data, catching subtle clinical inaccuracies, unsupported inferences, or errors in medical terminology.
  • Evaluate Note Structure: Ensure documentation aligns with behavioral health standards, distinguishing between appropriate clinical language and inappropriate or robotic phrasing.
  • Navigate Complex Workflows: Toggle seamlessly across multi-platform, document-intensive review systems while maintaining a high level of focus.
  • Refine the AI: Apply your advanced editing and proofreading skills to perfect English grammar, punctuation, and terminology, directly training the AI to write better notes.

What We Are Looking For
The Baseline Credential: You must hold a CPC-A (Certified Professional Coder - Apprentice) from AAPC, or higher. Why the apprentice level? We value your rock-solid foundation in clinical documentation, medical terminology, and anatomy-but we don't need you to be an expert in complex billing rules. Higher credentials like a full CPC, CCA, RHIT, CDIP, or CCDS are also gladly accepted, but not required.
  • Behavioral Health Fluency: You know your way around outpatient psychiatry, therapy, or mental health notes. You understand the unique structure and language required for these records.
  • Advanced Clinical Grounding: Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
  • Superhuman Attention to Detail: You are the person who catches the missing word or the slight contradiction that everyone else skims past. You can easily spot content that sounds right but is clinically unsupported.
  • Operational Readiness: Comfort working in high-volume, document-heavy tech platforms.
  • Eligibility: You must reside in the United States and have legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Top-Tier Bonus Points (Strongly Preferred)
  • You have prior experience in AI evaluation, data annotation, or human-in-the-loop (HITL) review programs.
  • You are already familiar with telehealth documentation or editing AI-generated clinical content.
  • You have spent time working in a BPO or managed services environment within healthcare or health tech.

Why This Role is Different
Unlike traditional coding roles that tie you to strict insurance reimbursement rules, this position focuses purely on the clinical integrity of the text. You get to use your credential to solve a cutting-edge tech problem, ensuring that providers get flawless notes and patients get safer care.
How We Partner To Protect You: TaskUs will neither solicit money from you during your application process nor require any form of payment in order to proceed with your application. Kindly ensure that you are always in communication with only authorized recruiters of TaskUs.
DEI: In TaskUs we believe that innovation and higher performance are brought by people from all walks of life. We welcome applicants of different backgrounds, demographics, and circumstances. Inclusive and equitable practices are our responsibility as a business. TaskUs is committed to providing equal access to opportunities. If you need reasonable accommodations in any part of the hiring process, please let us know.
EEO: TaskUs is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and is an affirmative action employer. We celebrate and support diversity; we are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. TaskUs people first culture thrives on it for the benefit of our employees, our clients, our services, and our community.
