Job description

The Neurology Center physician is responsible for the medical supervision of the Neurology Center services and programs. ย He plays an active role in program development, utilization management, quality assurance and program evaluation pertinent to the medical management of patients served. ย The Neurology Center physician supervises from a medical perspective to insure the quality of medical care given as well as to maintain the integrity of individual programs. ย He acts as a liaison to the medical staff for all physician related issues. ย He will assist in attracting and maintaining the most qualified clinical staff and assist in their continuing education efforts.ย 

Experience - Minimum of two (2) years experience working within a hospital and outpatient environment. Administrative experience as Medical Director
Education - A licensed board eligible or Board Certified Physician with experience in Neurology
ย 

  1. TECHNICAL TASKS
    1. Performs initial assessment, evaluation, and appropriate reassessment of all patients referred to the Neurology Center Determines appropriate care plan for all patients treated in the unit and revises and updates plan as circumstances dictate.
    2. Competently performs all aspects of patient treatment
    3. Assist with managing departmental responsibilities; assist with hiring and orientating new employees, education for the community and Neurology Center staff
    4. Assist with developing programs to meet customer and hospital needs. Attends education sessions and meetings as required and provides educationally sound programs in areas of responsibility
    5. Assists with meeting all accreditation and legal requirements expected of the Neurology Center, i.e. JCAHO, OSHA, State Licensure, etc
  2. CRITICAL THINKING
    1. Demonstrates proficiency with age groups- adults, geriatrics, pediatrics, services. Adapts care to the patients level of development/age specific needs.
    2. Assesses delivery of care provided to patients on unit. Follows through with responsibilities for patients care and verifies that delegated tasks have been completed
    3. Identifies learning needs of patient and family utilizing resources to assist in teaching patients, and their significant other, home care, recognition of the signs and symptoms of potential complications, medication and diet.
    4. Gives input on issues pertinent to program direction and development, space, equipment, and staffing requirements
    5. Displays resourcefulness in emergency situation. Knows equipment and correct sequence of actions required. Consistently demonstrates problem solving ability, initiative, good judgement, and proper use of resources
    6. Is responsible for medical supervision of the services and programs, and protocol development of subsequent programs, as determined by community needs
    7. Maintains a good relationship with all potential referral sources and related customers (third party intermediaries, case managers, lawyers, etc.). Clearly communicates facts, changes in status and ideas about the patient to other members of the health care team. Effectively participates in marketing Neurology services to other physicians, referral sources and community sources and submits reports on efforts as required by administration
  3. INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS
    1. Assist with the evaluation performance of employees and makes recommendations to the Clinical Manager of department for personnel actions
    2. Keeps Clinical Manager advised of any unusual situation or concerns and overall departmental performance.
    3. Maintains involvement in local, state, and national organizations active in the Neurology field and the community. Represents as requested, the hospital to outside groups and organizations. Actively participates as a member of the hospitals medical staff
  4. OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
    1. Consistently performs 12 organizational Service Standards focused on Values, Service and Quality
