Job Overview
A leading healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Surgical Tech - Neuro to join a high-volume Neurosurgery team in Peoria, Illinois.
The Surgical Technologist will work alongside surgeons, RN circulators, and perioperative staff during complex neurological procedures, including spinal fusions, craniotomies, and a broad range of additional neuro cases.
The department performs approximately 200 neurological surgeries per month across four operating rooms. Candidates must have at least two years of Surgical Technologist experience, including strong recent experience with complex Neuro OR procedures.
Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating rooms for neurological and spine procedures
  • Set up sterile instruments, equipment, implants, and supplies according to the scheduled procedure
  • Maintain sterile technique throughout surgical cases
  • Scrub complex neurological procedures, including spinal fusions and craniotomies
  • Anticipate surgeon needs and efficiently pass instruments, sutures, implants, and supplies
  • Assist with a broad range of neurological surgical procedures beyond spine and cranial cases
  • Perform accurate counts of instruments, sponges, sharps, and other surgical items
  • Assist with patient positioning and preparation according to procedure requirements
  • Maintain organized and safe sterile fields throughout procedures
  • Ensure specialty instruments and equipment are available and functioning properly before surgery
  • Assist with room turnover and preparation between cases
  • Follow infection-prevention, sterile-processing, and perioperative safety standards
  • Collaborate with surgeons, RN circulators, anesthesia providers, and other OR team members
  • Document and support procedural workflows using Epic OpTime
  • Participate in night, weekend, and holiday call rotations
  • Respond to emergency and urgent Neuro surgical cases when scheduled for call
  • Perform other Surgical Technologist responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
Required
  • Graduate of a Surgical Technologist program with hands-on clinical training
  • Minimum of two years of Surgical Technologist experience
  • Minimum of one year of dedicated Neuro OR experience
  • Experience scrubbing spinal fusion procedures
  • Experience scrubbing craniotomies
  • Well-rounded experience across multiple types of Neuro surgical procedures
  • Strong knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and operating room procedures
  • Ability to function effectively in complex and high-acuity surgical cases
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to anticipate surgeon needs
  • Ability to participate in required weeknight, weekend, and holiday call
  • Ability to work 10-hour day shifts
Preferred
  • Current Certified Surgical Technologist credential through NBSTSA
  • Current Basic Life Support certification
  • More than two years of Neuro Surgical Technologist experience
  • Experience in a large tertiary or high-volume surgical center
  • Experience with complex spine instrumentation and implants
  • Experience using Epic OpTime
Department Information

Schedule & Call Requirements
  • 10-hour day shifts
  • Typical schedule: 7:00 AM-5:30 PM
  • No self-scheduling
  • Approximately 1-2 weeknight call shifts per week
  • Night call generally runs 5:30 PM-7:00 AM
  • Approximately one weekend call rotation per month
  • Holiday call participation required
