Surgical Technologist Trainee - Full-Time Days FLEXCayuga Health System began by joining two longstanding, independent hospitals into a cohesive health-care network providing seamless, comprehensive, community centered care for the residents of central New York. With the recent affiliation of Arnot Health and the establishment of Xtensys, an organization focused on the integration and strategic operations of this expanding health system, we are poised to become the premier care organization across New York.A Surgical Tech Trainee will learn the role of a Surgical Technologist on the job with provided education and clinical experience. Provides technical and clinical support to the perioperative team during a variety of surgical procedures. Performs duties as the primary scrub person by handling instrumentation, supplies and equipment. Anticipates the surgeon and procedural needs. Must be able to complete the didactic program provided within 8 months.Roles and Responsibilities (on the job training):Standards of Care: Maintains operative care standards according to AORN guidelines.Preparation and Setup: Stocks rooms, cleans equipment, and prepares supplies based on surgeon and anesthesia needs.Surgical Support: Assists with patient positioning, surgical hand scrubs, counts, and Time Out procedures.Safety and Infection Control: Identifies and addresses safety hazards, follows universal precautions, and infection control protocols.Accountability and Flexibility: Organizes tasks to meet patient and unit needs, adapts to changes, and stays current with education and policies.Required Skills and Experience:BLS Certification up to dateMinimum 1 year experience in a direct patient care environment requiredMust be able to complete the didactic education program provided within 8 months.On the job training schedule and any additional education needed to fulfill the requirements of this Surgical Technologist Trainee program will be discussed during the interview processPreferred Skills and Experience:Medical Assistants, LPN's, Sterile Processing, Anesthesia TechPatient handlingEffective communicator within team environmentMedical terminologyHIPPA compliance and understandingSterility knowledgeAbility to multitask and problem solve Anatomy and physiologyPhysical Requirements:Frequent hand and finger use (e.g., to operate a computer keyboard, work with fine/small instruments).Lifting and carrying items up to 40 lbs. (e.g., boxes, equipment, IV solutions), with or without reasonable accommodation.Ability to stoop, kneel, or crouch for tasks such as retrieving items from lower shelves or filing in low drawers.Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods, as the position may require.Capacity to operate job-related equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.Location and Travel Requirements:Onsite at Cayuga Medical Center: 101 Dates Drive, Ithaca, NY 14850Shift: Days FLEX.
