Travel Possible Job Summary: Performs non-destructive inspections of aircraft, engines, and ground support equipment. Assists in the training of assigned personnel. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: * Performs NDIs of aircraft, engines components and ground support equipment using eddy current, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, radiographic, ultrasonic and visual inspection methods and develops, processes and interprets radiographs. * Participates in the development and documentation of new NDI techniques. * Performs and monitors NDI testing including that associated with TCTO related inspections in accordance with applicable technical data. * Informs maintenance personnel to the extent and location of each defect detected during NDI activities. Documents each defect on the applicable form(s) specifying the extent and location. * Conducts the OIT training of assigned personnel using demonstrated/performance type training methods. Assists in evaluating the proficiency of NDI personnel for certification purposes. * Implements process controls and performs operator maintenance of assigned NDI equipment * Assists the NDI lead in monitoring compliance with the safety, housekeeping, tool control and FOD prevention programs. * Complies with the requirements of the FOD prevention, housekeeping, tool control, environmental and safety programs. * In the absence of the lead performs the duties of the lead person as required. * Removes and installs aircraft panels excluding those panels requiring Command and Response, associated with NDI activities. * Participates in towing or aircraft movement to perform NDI activities. * Follows technical data, manuals, regulations, and other maintenance directives as required. * Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications and Experience Knowledge - A thorough knowledge of the cleaning and any other necessary preparation of the parts before or after inspection is required. Must be qualified to direct and carry out tests in the method certified. Shall be thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of the methods used. Shall know practical theory, be familiar with, and be able to use manuals and source books for assistance in utilizing techniques. Must be aware of the need for and limitations of: reference standards. Knowledge of all types and location of expected defects for the fabrication methods used to make the parts is also required. Page 2 of 2 Education - Completion of high school or the equivalent is required and graduation from the USAF NDI School or equivalent is required. Experience - The amount of experience stated in the NDI testing methods is required: Eddy Current -two (2) years, Magnetic Particle-one (1) year, Liquid Penetrant -one (1) year, Radiographic -two (2) years' and ultrasonic - two years' Six (6) months of experience in oil analysis is desired. Special Conditions -The ability to meet the vision standards specified in NAS 410 is required. The ability to set up and calibrate equipment and to read, interpret and evaluate indications is required. The ability to apply detailed techniques to products or parts and to organize and report test results is required. The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing is required. The ability to instruct and to evaluate the skill and knowledge levels attained by ND! personnel is required. Must be able to become qualified and use a respirator. Must pass and sustain a Level Il certification. Working Conditions: * Environment ranges from office to hangar and flight line and requires extensive climbing, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching, and walking demands. * Must be able to stand for long periods of time. * Must be physically capable of performing all assigned duties. * Normal color vision is required. * Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs * Possession of a valid US driver's license is necessary to obtain flight line driving privileges.
