Position Summary:

The Underwriting Operations Technician supports our Commercial Underwriting team by processing policies and quotes. In this role, you'll review applications and policy changes for accuracy, rate new and renewal business, calculate premiums, and assist Underwriters with quotes and endorsements. Strong attention to detail, knowledge of rating systems and industry manuals (ISO, NCCI), and the ability to understand insurance policy language are essential for accurate and efficient processing.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Read and comprehend written documents including insurance and policy terms and other factual information
  • Review applications and requests for policy changes to ensure information is accurate to complete the rating process, and report to the Underwriter accordingly
  • Rate policies and changes in such policies, utilizing the company's rating/publishing system
  • Assist in contacting Underwriting personnel to discuss quotes, renewals, applications, changes and underwriting issues
  • Maintain proficiency in the use of the company's rating/publishing system
  • Maintain proficiency in the use of ISO, NCCI, and other appropriate online manuals
  • Calculate premiums on endorsements, cancellations, and payment plans
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Previous Property/Casualty Commercial Lines Insurance experience preferred
  • Knowledge of ISO (Insurance Services Offices) /NCCI (Workers' Compensation) regulations
  • Previous experience with insurance rating/publishing system(s) preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic understanding and application of Microsoft Office
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proven ability to stay organized and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Office environment; this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, as directed by manager
  • Frequently sit at a desk or other workstation for extended periods of time
  • Occasionally lift and carry equipment and/or materials weighing up to 15 pounds
  • Routinely bend, kneel, reach, see, be mobile and walk around
  • Must be able to attend and perform job duties effectively both in-person and virtually, as required by manager
