Job description

As the Associate Counsel, you will support the VP, Legal and Business Affairs on all legal, regulatory and business issues. This includes ensuring organizational compliance with laws and National Basketball Association (NBA) regulations. Additionally, you will implement rules, policies, and procedures to mitigate organizational risk, coordinate and handle all litigations and disputes, negotiate, review and approve all contracts for the business and basketball operations of the Detroit Pistons. We are seeking an individual to support all strategic and corporate development, as well as entertainment relationships and initiatives, and provide advice, counsel and strategic guidance to all departments and functions. What you'll be doing:
  • Draft, edit and/or approve revenue or vendor contracts and other legal documents for all departments
  • Coordinate interdepartmental internal and external processes
  • Evaluate business deals for potential legal and regulatory issues and ensure compliance with applicable state and local laws and regulations, and NBA bylaws and regulations
  • Oversee law firms and consultants to accomplish the tasks above
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on legal issues and conduct-related policy matters
  • Review, evaluate and advise on internal policies regarding data privacy and artificial intelligence

Requirements
  • 3+ years of legal experience, preferably with a concentration in sports or entertainment
  • J.D. from top law school with active bar admission
  • BA/BS from top college/university
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on team-based problem solving
