Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. (MSG Sports) is a leading professional sports company, with a collection of assets that includes the New York Knicks (NBA) and the New York Rangers (NHL), as well as two development league teams - the Westchester Knicks (NBAGL) and the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL). Who are we hiring?
In coordination with the Senior Director Communications, this role supports the development and execution of communications, publicity strategy, and key organizational initiatives for the New York Rangers. The Director Communications partners cross-functionally to ensure accurate and consistent communication with media, as well as internal and external stakeholders, including content, marketing, event presentation, ticketing, partnerships, and MSG Network. This role will also be responsible for managing game night staff, overseeing the credentialing process for home games, leading the development of the team's media guide, and coordinating information flow with the NYR content team.
What will you do?
  • Travel to the majority of road games and coordinate locker room availability in partnership with department leadership.
  • Monitor player availability and communicate updates as needed.
  • Assist with player and coach media preparation, including drafting media training materials.
  • Partner with MSG Sports Communications to support and execute publicity efforts for the franchise.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Digital, Event Presentation, Community Relations, Ticketing, Partnerships, and Garden of Dreams to identify and coordinate player-related initiatives.
  • Identify and develop human-interest story opportunities featuring Rangers players.
  • Maintain strong relationships with traditional and non-traditional media contacts.
  • Oversee credentialing operations for all home games at Madison Square Garden, including management of press seating.
  • Develop press materials, including press releases and media advisories, and support pitching, securing, and tracking media coverage.
  • Manage department-led special events and related activities.
  • Provide exceptional experiences for our guests, partners, and team members, including by adhering to our appearance and presentation guidelines while on-site.

What do you need to succeed?
  • 10+ years of experience in PR or Communications.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field of study
  • Experience working with a professional sports team, with a focus on hockey
  • Understanding of media relations and experience dealing with media
  • Exemplary verbal and written communications skills
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Experience in Adobe InDesign a plus
  • Experience establishing contacts with media outside sports
  • Prior experience in fast paced environment working with tight deadlines

SUPERVISION:
  • Manages PR game night staff at all Rangers home games

Special Requirements
  • Flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays

Pay Range
$160,000-$175,000 USD
