Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: The Dallas Mavericks are looking for qualified applicants to experience a professional work environment by assisting the Youth Basketball Department with a variety of independent and group projects. The Mavs Academy Intern will report to the Director of Mavs Basketball Academy and work directly with the Youth Basketball Department. The Mavs Academy Intern provides administrative support to the Program Director and to Youth Basketball staff. Tasks include, but are not limited to, staffing the Camps, word processing, data collection and entry, maintaining administrative staff schedules, assisting with student evaluations and other clerical and administrative tasks.
LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP:
  • October 1, 2026 - April 30, 2027. (Duration may change because of performance and/or business needs.)
  • Mandatory In-Person Internship Development Session. (Monday mornings.)
  • Must be able to work 29 hours per week (3-4 days/wk.), which may include nights and weekends as needed and working games.

JOB FUNCTION:
  • Assisting the Mavs Academy Staff with Mavs Academy Basketball Club duties and responsibilities. This would include attending practices and games/tournaments. Communicating with the MABC Regional Directors, administration duties, and metric tracking etc.
  • Assisting the Mavs Academy Coordinator with league development; relationship building with partner agencies; and ordering, processing, billing of league jerseys-ensuring the Mavs receive payment. and management of league paperwork, league related phone calls and emails, and mailings.
  • Assisting Mavs Academy Coordinator and Mavs Academy Manager with the fulfillment of various tasks/events, including: Coaches Clinic, Ballkid Selection, Ballkid Meeting, Ballkid Uniforms, Ballkid game night responsibilities etc.
  • Assist the Mavs Academy Coordinator and Mavs Academy Manager with the planning and execution of all Youth Basketball Programs including Hoop Camp Development Camps, Skills Training, Combines, One Day Hoop Camps, Mavs Experience, Dance Camp, and GEM.
  • Assisting Mavs Academy Coordinator and Ticket Department with the Summer Camps Ticket Redemption program.
  • Assist Mavs Academy Cordinator and Mavs Academy Manager with the planning and execution of marketing/community basketball events including City Hoops Program, Jr. NBA Clinic, Reading and Learning Center Court Dedications, Community Outreach programs. This includes registration/waivers, sign in sheets, payment, gift bags as well as on site operations.
  • Assist Mavs Academy Coordinator and Mavs Academy Manager with the fulfillment of various tasks for the Mavs GEM/Fall Classic (High School Tournament). Duties will include coordinating clock and book workers, gate workers, hospitality rooms, etc.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university
  • One to three years experience in the sports industry
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles, practices, and terminology of advertising, marketing, public relations programs
  • Organize & prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Work effectively under pressure in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, written & oral communication skills, team-oriented.
  • Proficient with Windows: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Strong knowledge of live events.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Must be a current college Sophomore, Junior, or Senior with a preferred concentration in Sports Management.
    If applying for college credit you must be able to provide proof that credit will be earned toward your course of study (from school/registrar).
