Job description

We are seeking a senior, enterprise-minded leader to define and drive AstraZeneca's national laboratory and oncology society engagement strategy, translating scientific innovation into scalable, real-world patient impact.
This position reports to the Senior Director, Precision Medicine, and Marketing, and partners broadly across commercial, market access, medical affairs, and alliance organizations.
The Opportunity
As Director, National Labs & Societies, you will lead the strategy and execution of AstraZeneca's engagement with national laboratory networks and key oncology societies, ensuring optimal integration of companion diagnostics into clinical practice.
You will operate at the intersection of commercial strategy, market access, and scientific engagement, influencing how biomarker testing is adopted, reimbursed, and operationalized across the U.S. oncology ecosystem.
This is a high-impact role with visible enterprise influence, shaping diagnostic strategy across multiple brands and indications while directly contributing to improved patient identification and access.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Leadership in Companion Diagnostics & Lab Strategy
  • Define and lead AstraZeneca's U.S. national lab strategy, including prioritization, partnership models, and long-term ecosystem evolution
  • Serve as the primary strategic collaborate with leading national lab organizations, driving alignment on testing practices, data exchange, and innovation
  • Anticipate shifts in diagnostic technologies, reimbursement, and lab consolidation-and proactive position AstraZeneca to lead.

Driving Measurable Patient Impact
  • Establish and deliver against clear performance metrics, including biomarker testing adoption, time-to-test optimization, and patient identification rates
  • Translate diagnostic strategy into actionable plans that improve end-to-end patient journey outcomes

Commercial & Market Access Integration
  • Partner closely with Market Access, HEOR, and brand teams to align diagnostic strategy with payer dynamics and coverage pathways
  • Shape approaches that address access barriers to testing, including reimbursement, coding, and lab workflow considerations
  • Build strong, compliant partnerships with laboratories that help bring innovative diagnostic testing into routine oncology care

Strategic Partnerships & External Engagement
  • Build and expand relationships with leading national laboratories, diagnostic companies, and oncology societies
  • Represent AstraZeneca in external scientific and industry forums, influencing standards of care and diagnostic guidelines
  • Identify and advance opportunities for innovative collaborations across the diagnostic ecosystem

Insight Generation & Data-Driven Strategy
  • Lead integration of lab, market, and customer insights into actionable strategies
  • Translate insights into brand, access, and precision medicine initiatives that drive impact

Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Act as a strategic connector across Precision Medicine, Marketing, Sales, Medical Affairs, and Market Access

Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 10+ years of experience in pharma, biotech, or healthcare, including at least 5 years in oncology, diagnostics, or precision medicine
  • Demonstrated leader Established relationships within the U.S. oncology ecosystem ship in cross-functional strategy development and execution within complex, matrixed organizations
  • Proven ability to influence senior collaborators across commercial, medical, and market access functions, as well as external partners
  • Strong critical thinking and execution capabilities, with a track record of translating insights into measurable business and patient impact
  • Deep understanding of the oncology clinical landscape, including treatment pathways, biomarker testing, and precision medicine integration
  • Customer-facing experience engaging senior-level external partners, including health system leaders, labs, or scientific organizations
  • Exceptional communication and leadership presence, with the ability to align diverse partners around a common vision

Location
Field-US based, with periodic travel to AstraZeneca's Gaithersburg, MD campus (US Oncology and Oncology Business Unit headquarters).
Pay Transparency
The annual base salary (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $215,000-$240,000. However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles) or to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
