Job description

The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, located in Little Rock, AR, is seeking a part-time Museum Store Associate.  AMFA is an active partner in the educational, economic, and cultural life of a diverse community, inviting discovery, creativity and learning through engagement with the visual and performing arts.   

Reporting to the Museum Store Manager, the Museum Store Associate (PT) plays a vital role in enhancing the visitor experience by providing exceptional customer service and promoting the Museum’s mission through the sale of merchandise.  This role involves assisting visitors, managing merchandise displays, processing transactions, and maintaining the overall presentation and organization of the store.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Arrive on time and ready to work, as scheduled.
  • Work in a professional and cooperative manner with other AMFA associates and employees.
  • Work proactively to meet or exceed individual and store goals.
  • Greet and engage visitors in a friendly and knowledgeable manner.
  • Assist customers with product selection that aligns with their interests/needs.
  • Receive, unpack, and organize incoming merchandise shipments.
  • Create appealing merchandise displays that showcase products and convey the Museum’s themes.
  • Ensure proper pricing, tagging, and labeling of items.
  • Operate cash registers and handle financial transactions accurately.
  • Process sales, returns, exchanges, and refunds following established procedures.
  • Keep up-to-date records of daily sales and reconcile cash drawer at end of each shift.
  • Perform Shopify POS and Guest Services functions, including processing sell/renewal of memberships. 
  • Analyze and share daily sales data in Shopify and prepare financial report for the EOD summary email.
  • Arrange and restock merchandise to ensure a visually appealing and organized display.
  • Regularly update displays to highlight new arrivals, season items, and special promotions.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read written materials (product descriptions, instructions, etc.).
  • Possess basic math skills for handling transactions.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Have a passion for the arts and cultural institutions.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to create a welcoming environment.
  • Prior experience in front-line retail or customer service position preferred.
  • Prior experience with Shopify and/or Tessitura preferred.
  • Bi-lingual or multi-lingual preferred
  • Physical ability to:
    • Regularly walk and/or stand for long periods of time (up to 5 hours at a time).
    • Regularly use hands and fingers to grab and handle merchandise and perform financial transactions.
    • Regularly use speech to interact with public.
    • Occasionally lift more than 25 lbs.; occasionally up to 50 lbs.
    • Frequently climb step stool; occasionally climb 6-foot ladder.
    • Regularly bend, lean, push, pull, stoop, and crawl.
