Job description

Job Description Summary

The Department of Public Health Sciences (DPHS) and Hollings Cancer Center (HCC) seek an outstanding cancer population scientist to serve as a member of our faculty and help advance cancer prevention and population sciences research. Qualified applicants will be considered for a tenure track Assistant Professor position.
The successful candidate must have a doctoral or equivalent degree with training in medicine, epidemiology, public health, informatics and data science, nursing, psychology, anthropology, behavioral science, behavioral economics, health services, health economics, communication, decision sciences, sociology, or other related fields. Areas of interest include cancer research related to precision population health, health communication, molecular or genetic epidemiology, implementation science, community-based research, early detection and screening, telehealth, health services and policy research, shared decision making, health promotion/health behavior, and symptom management.
Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to continue to develop their own research projects, work on public health and cancer center initiatives, assist in developing extramural grant applications in collaboration with other public health and cancer center investigators, provide mentorship and training to junior faculty at both DPHS and HCC, and participate in DPHS’ graduate training programs.
DPHS is home to a talented faculty with appointments in a range of public health specialties including: Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Biomedical Informatics and Data Science, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Epidemiology, and Health Services Research. The department has two successful and long-standing masters and doctoral degree programs in biostatistics and epidemiology, a new joint PhD/MS program with Clemson University in Biomedical Data Science and Informatics, and offers MPH degrees in biostatistics, epidemiology, and health behavior and health promotion.
The Hollings Cancer Center at MUSC is the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Cancer Center in the State of South Carolina, serving 5.2M residents. As the only NCI-designated cancer center in South Carolina, the Hollings Cancer Center is part of an elite network of 72 cancer centers across the country recognized for our dedication to delivering cutting-edge treatments to patients and conducting innovative research to serve the unique needs of our state.
