Job description

Overview
As the most senior of three levels of Illustrator/Media Developer, this position develops and maintains accurate illustrations for A-dec communications, including user, pre-installation, installation, and service guides, catalogs, brochures, CAD libraries, and other projects. This role manages complex projects, reviews and directs the work of other illustrators, and provides expert-level support in multiple specialty design areas.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and create illustrations of A-dec products for various technical communication publications using a variety of design software programs.
  • Provide expert-level support in multiple specialty areas, including print production, animation, document design, engineering CAD model leverage/conversion, 3D modeling, multimedia/web development, video photography, and user-centered design/usability testing.
  • Collaborate with technical communicators, engineers, user experience analysts, and other subject matter experts to define technical illustration and animation requirements.
  • Lead, manage and execute complex projects; including collaborating with necessary resources to plan and estimate the project to success, as needed.
  • Effectively communicate to leader and project teams current status and action plan to maintain project schedule.
  • Maintain in-depth working knowledge of required department software applications and A-dec products related to deliverables.
  • Lead and develop standards and processes to support consistency and collaboration within the department and downstream customers
  • Review and direct the work of peers, providing guidance and training on techniques, tools, and processes.
  • Evaluate and implement new tools and technologies for the department while reducing technical debt by collaborating with supporting departments and internal customers.
  • Advise customers on illustration approaches and support cross-functional initiatives.
  • Develop and provide effective communications with cross functional teams around schematics and design.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Expertise in design software programs (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, CAD software).
  • Advanced proficiency in multiple specialty areas such as computer graphics, animation, 3D modeling, and multimedia/web development.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage complex projects effectively.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and peer leadership skills.
  • Experience in usability testing and user-centered design.
  • Ability to quickly learn new products, technologies, and software applications.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Approximately 6+ years of professional experience in technical illustration or an equivalent combination of coursework and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing standards and processes.
