Job Summary

Join our mission-driven team at the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) to work as a Multimedia Coordinator where you will contribute to protecting, maintaining, and improving the health of all Minnesotans!

This position is responsible for planning, developing, and managing the external and internal multimedia communication and digital storytelling cross-platform content for the agency.  This position serves as the liaison between the Executive Team, customers, and the public and advises the Creative Director on improvements to MDH's multimedia program.  This position serves as a resource for the MDH You Tube channel, assisting with content management and accessibility compliance.  This position functions as the video, motion design and photography hardware, software, production, and video communications subject matter expert for the agency.  They will also serve as the agency's multimedia Lead, to facilitate the development, management, implementation and maintenance of multimedia content across digital, social, web, audio, and other emerging platforms.

Working as a Multimedia Coordinator you will:

  • Envision, develop, implement, and evaluate multimedia components of major communication projects.
  • Serve as a strategic resource for department staff, developing multimedia components of communications projects.
  • Serve as an expert on current video and photo equipment and tools, maintaining and recommending repair and replacement, as necessary.

In accordance with HR/LR policy #1422 Telework, this position is eligible for up to 50% telework for applicants who live in Minnesota or in a bordering state withing 50 miles of the assigned work location.  Candidates resigning outside of Minnesota, further than 50 miles of the assigned work location at the time of application must be able to relocate to Minnesota within 30 days of their start dates.  The telework policy may exempt employees who live more than 50 miles from their primary work location from the 50% in-office requirement, depending on job requirements, helping the State of Minnesota access top talent across the state.

MDH relies heavily on grant funding, in addition to state appropriated dollars. As an agency, we continually monitor funding levels and navigate some degree of uncertainty related to grant cycles and the impact of the grant funding on program priorities.  

This position is currently funded and approved to be filled. While the position is funded at this time, future funding is dependent on the continuation of our funding sources. The Minnesota Department of Health works proactively to sustain programs and maintain our workforce, to avoid reductions in force to the very best of our ability. In the event of a loss of funding resulting in a necessary workforce reduction, that process is governed by our collective bargaining agreements and compensation plans. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

To facilitate proper crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

Three (3) years of experience working in communications or publications.  This experience must include:

  • Experience with the operation of PCs and Macintosh platforms, network operating systems and communications and a wide variety of computer software applications.
  • Experience with the use of web design, desktop publishing, graphics, video editing, word processing, database and spreadsheet programs such as: ; Desktop publishing and graphics--Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe PageMaker, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, Quark Express, Adobe Premiere Pro (video); and word processing/database/spreadsheet: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Experience planning, capturing, editing, and producing professional photography and multimedia content through all phases of production, including concept development, scripting, storyboarding, shot list creation, production scheduling, coordination of locations, talent and equipment, and post-production editing and finalization of photo and video assets.
  • Experience using professional photography, videography, and audio recording equipment including cameras, microphones, lighting, and related production hardware to produce high quality visual and audio content.

A related master’s degree may substitute for eighteen (18) months of experience; bachelor’s degree may substitute for twelve (12) months of experience; and associate’s degree may substitute for six (6) months of experience.

Qualifications to be further assessed during the interview process:

  • Communications skills, both verbally and in writing, sufficient to communicate information clearly to a variety of internal and external and external partners.
  • Human relations skills sufficient to create and maintain effective working relationships within the agency and externally.
  • Organizational skills sufficient to manage and prioritize multiple projects that may have competing deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to change and ambiguity.
  • Ability to balance polished brand standards with authentic, timely, and audience-centered digital storytelling.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BA//BS/BFA or equivalent combination of education and experience in video production/photography or related discipline.
  • Previous background of health and public health issues, and ability to identify reputable sources of health information.
  • Strategic planning experience, using knowledge of effective media relations strategies.

Additional Requirements

  • This position requires successful completion of a background check and employment reference check.
  • This employment does not require a valid driver’s license, but it does demand travel, which the candidate will be responsible for meeting.    
  • MDH does not participate in the federal E-Verify program and is unable to sponsor applicants for work visas, including F-1 STEM OPT extensions, and cannot complete Form I-9 or any other documentation requiring employer participation in E-Verify.
