Job description

WHTM-TV/abc27, the ABC affiliate serving South Central Pennsylvania and owned by Nexstar Media Group, is seeking a creative, motivated, and curious Multimedia Journalist to join our newsroom. This position is ideal for a strong storyteller who is comfortable finding, developing, shooting, writing, editing, and presenting stories across multiple platforms.

The Multimedia Journalist researches, writes, captures visual content, edits, and presents general assignment stories for television, digital, mobile, and social media. The successful candidate will have strong news judgment, solid writing skills, professional on-air presence, and the ability to produce accurate, engaging content on deadline.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Produce news content for multiple platforms, including television, digital, mobile, and social media.

  • Work with newsroom management to enterprise, pitch, and develop stories on a daily basis.

  • Gather and verify information through interviews, observation, research, and review of reliable sources.

  • Organize material, determine the appropriate angle or emphasis, and write stories according to established editorial style, format standards, and newsroom expectations.

  • Shoot and edit video using broadcast-quality camera equipment and newsroom editing tools.

  • Deliver compelling storytelling through strong writing, dynamic live shots and stand-ups, creative visuals, graphics, and effective use of digital and social media platforms.

  • Demonstrate sound editorial judgment while applying journalism ethics, accuracy standards, and knowledge of libel laws.

  • Represent abc27 professionally in the community and in the field.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field required; equivalent years of professional experience may be considered as a substitute for education.

  • One year of experience as a multimedia journalist or in a similar newsroom reporting role preferred.

  • Strong on-air reporting, writing, editing, and technical skills.

  • Experience using cameras, camera equipment, and broadcast-quality video gear.

  • Ability to shoot, write, edit, and present stories under deadline pressure.

  • Strong news judgment and understanding of journalism ethics, accuracy, fairness, and libel laws.

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to manage challenging situations professionally, including breaking news, sensitive interviews, and deadline-driven newsroom demands.
