Job description

KBAK/KBFX is looking for a Sports Multimedia Journalist who understands the X's and O's but is equally passionate about telling stories that reveal the impact sports have on our communities. Whether it's a Friday night football coach changing lives, a young athlete overcoming adversity, or the issues shaping youth sports, you'll look beyond highlights to find stories that matter.

Just as importantly, you'll embrace the reality that sports journalism no longer happens on a single platform or on a scheduled sportscast.

Our audience expects updates in real time. That means you'll be comfortable breaking news on social media, publishing to digital first, reporting live for streaming and television, and creating compelling content wherever our viewers are. You'll think beyond deadlines and embrace a continuous, multi-platform approach to storytelling.

If you're excited about redefining sports journalism in one of America's best states for sports, we'd love to hear from you.

Skills and Experience:

  • A journalist first, and a sports storyteller always
  • A minimum of 1 year reporting experience is required
  • Strong understanding of sports strategy and the ability to explain the game with clarity and context

  • Experience shooting, writing, editing, and reporting independently

  • A digital-first mindset with experience publishing to web, social, streaming, and broadcast platforms

  • Cover professional, collegiate, high school, and community sports with urgency and creativity

  • Build relationships with athletes, coaches, organizations, and community leaders to develop exclusive story ideas.
  • Collaborate with newsroom leadership to identify stories where sports intersect with education, business, public safety, health, politics, and culture.
  • The ability to work well independently
  •  Must have and maintain a valid license and a good driving record

Full time positions are eligible for benefits that include participation in a retirement plan, life and disability insurance, health, dental and vision plans, flexible spending accounts, sick leave, vacation time, personal time, parental leave and employee stock purchase plan
