Position Details
General Statement
MSU Student Health Services serves the diverse health needs of the MSU student body through an integrated model designed to reduce barriers to care. The SHS Pharmacy operates within the Student Wellness Center and serves as a critical component of the campus healthcare ecosystem. This position reports to the Pharmacy Manager and works under the direct supervision of licensed pharmacists.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Process and dispense prescriptions under pharmacist supervision in compliance with Montana Board of Pharmacy regulations
  • Strictly maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times
  • Deliver courteous, professional service to MSU students
  • Manage medication inventory including controlled substances
  • Process insurance claims and billing
  • Over-the-counter and retail sale management
  • Maintain required records and support pharmacy administrative functions

Required Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Must be at least 18 years of age (Montana Board of Pharmacy requirement)
  3. Active Montana Certified Pharmacy Technician license (CPhT via PTCB or ExCPT/NHA), or eligibility for a provisional license; active licensure required prior to start date (ARM 24.174.701)

Preferred Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  1. CPhT credential (PTCB preferred)
  2. Previous experience in a retail, clinic, or hospital pharmacy setting
  3. Experience with pharmacy management software
  4. Familiarity with third-party insurance billing and claims processing
  5. Experience working in a college health, public health, or student-facing service environment

The Successful Candidate Will
  • Monday-Friday availability during SHS Pharmacy operating hours
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in a high-stakes clinical environment
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to patient privacy and HIPAA compliance
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact respectfully with a diverse student population
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain workflow in a busy pharmacy setting
  • Professional, ethical conduct and reliability

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information
  • Montana Board of Pharmacy Compliance: This position is subject to all applicable provisions of Montana Administrative Rules Chapter 24.174. The selected candidate must maintain an active Montana pharmacy technician license and comply with all continuing education requirements mandated by the certifying agency for annual license renewal.
