LOCATION OF POSITION

This is a statewide\r\nposition. While Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division\r\nwill take county residency into account, assignment will depend on need.\r\nSelected applicants must\r\nbe willing to work in any county in Maryland.\r\n

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to expose young men and women to the various duties and responsibilities of a Maryland State Trooper and to better prepare them to become Troopers when they reach the age of 21.\r\nCadets are assigned to perform duties that do not require police authority. They are generally assigned to the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division. Cadets will be assigned to work under the supervision of a Trooper at a truck inspection station or on patrol.\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

United States Citizen (for more information regarding\r\nqualifications of US citizenship, please visithttp://www.uscis.gov/us-citizenship)\r\nAge - Cadet applicants may complete the application process at\r\nthe age of 17, but cannot be appointed or begin working until he reaches the\r\nage of 18. Cadet Applicants must be appointed before reaching 20 years of age.\r\nResidency - Applicants do not need to be a Maryland resident to\r\nprocess. However, they must become a Maryland resident on the date of\r\nappointment as cadet.\r\nMust have a high school diploma or a G.E.D. (Cadet Applicants\r\nmay begin the application process in the final year of high school).\r\nMust possess a valid Driver's License in any state and a\r\nsatisfactory driving record, current driving record cannot exceed 3 points, in\r\nthe event you exceed this requirement please wait to apply until you are at or\r\nbelow 3 points.\r\nMust be in excellent physical condition.\r\nBinocular visual acuity must be 20/20 with or without\r\ncorrection.\r\nHave a good reputation and sound moral character.\r\nNot have any current court orders relating to domestic violence.\r\nBe truthful in every stage of the application process.\r\n\r\nAn individual is ineligible for\r\ninitial certification as a cadet if the individual has illegally used marijuana\r\nwithin 1 year before application.\r\n\r\nAn individual is ineligible for\r\ninitial certification as a cadet or trooperif the individual has\r\nillegally used a controlled dangerous substance (other than marijuana)\r\nornarcotic drug for any purpose within the 3 years before application.\r\n
