THE ROLE

We are looking for a motivated Junior DevOps Engineer with hands-on experience in PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server and a strong interest in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) technologies.You will be responsible for managing and optimizing databases hosted on GCP, especially Cloud SQL, while working closely with engineering teams to ensure performance, reliability, and scalability. 

 Responsibilities

  • Write, analyze, and optimize SQL queries for performance and scalability
  • Manage and maintain PostgreSQL and SQL Server databases on GCP (Cloud SQL)
  • Perform query tuning and performance optimization using execution plans
  • Design, implement, and maintain indexes
  • Support and maintain high availability (HA) and disaster recovery setups in cloud environments
  • Perform routine database maintenance tasks:
    • Index rebuild/reorganization
    • Statistics updates
    • Backup & restore operations
  • Monitor and troubleshoot database performance issues in GCP environmentsWork closely with GCP services and infrastructure (Cloud SQL, Compute Engine, IAM basics, networking concepts) 
  • Collaborate with other teams to improve database usage and efficiency.  

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field and 1-2 years of database engineering experience 
  • Basic hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server
  • Strong ability to write clean, efficient, and optimized SQL queries
  • Solid understanding of:
    • Query execution plans 
    • Query optimization techniques
    • indexing strategies
  • Familiarity with:
    • Joins, subqueries, CTEs, window functions
    • Data modeling basics (normalization, relationships)
  • Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or strong foundational knowledge, especially:
    • Cloud SQL
    • Basic cloud concepts (compute, networking, IAM)
  • Understanding of high availability and replication concepts in cloud environments
  • Experience with database maintenance and monitoring
  • Ability to work in Linux and/or Windows environments
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
Nice to Have
  • Experience with other GCP services (BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, Monitoring)
  • Experience with non-relational databases, such as:
    • MongoDB
    • Elasticsearch
    • Redis
  • Familiarity with query profiling and performance tools
  • Basic scripting skills (Python, Bash, or PowerShell)
  • Knowledge of database security and access control
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
