Job description

The MRI Imaging Assistant supports MRI operations through patient assistance, MRI safety screening, room and equipment preparation, and non-interpretive imaging tasks under the direction of an MRI Technologist. This role assists with positioning but does not perform image acquisition.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.
  • Perform MRI safety screening for patients, personnel, and non-personnel; identifies safety risks and escalates concerns promptly.
  • Perform basic patient-care tasks such as obtaining vital signs, assisting with patient transfers, supporting standard precautions, and preparing patients for MRI exams.
  • Apply MRI safety principles, including awareness of static fields, RF heating, gradient effects, and environmental hazards.
  • Maintain controlled access to Zone III and support compliance with MRI Safety Zones.
  • Select and position coils safely with technologist supervision; perform patient positioning and anatomical landmarking without initiating scans.
  • Use proper ergonomic techniques to support patient comfort and minimize motion.
  • Assist with patient communication and monitoring throughout MRI exams.
  • Prepare MRI rooms between exams, including coil setup, linen replacement, stocking, and equipment checks.
  • Prepare contrast materials and assist with injector setup as directed (does not initiate injection or scanning).
  • Support workflow efficiency, room readiness, and patient throughput.
  • Clean MRI rooms and related areas to maintain a safe, organized environment.
  • Document required information accurately in the EHR and report equipment or safety issues promptly.
  • Participate in required competencies, safety training, and ongoing development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Experience & Training: To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the minimum qualifications listed below.ย  These qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform this job.

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current BLS CPR certification (or obtained within 90 days of hire)

Preferred โ€“

  • Prior experience in healthcare or patient-care support
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and PACS
  • Experience in orthopedics, outpatient imaging, or medical assisting

ย KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • ย Knowledge of MRI safety principles, including screening, implants, and emergency protocols
  • Demonstrates professionalism through positive communication, teamwork, and respectful interactions.
  • Understanding of anatomy relevant to MRI positioning and landmarking.
  • Competence in patient care tasks, including vital signs, transfers, precautions, and venipuncture.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and maintain focus in a fast-paced environment.
  • Computer literacy, including basic EHR and PACS use.
  • Strong organization, multitasking, and attention to detailย 

SHIFT: Supplemental. 10-hour shift, 7:30 am- 5:30 pm
