MRI Technologist 3

The MRI Technologist 3 is responsible for performing a full range of routine and complex magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations independently and is a resource for team members and students. The position supports diagnosis and treatment by ensuring patient safety, imaging quality, and efficient throughput. The MRI Technologist 3 has a strong foundational competency in MRI safety, patient screening, positioning, coil selection, and execution of established imaging protocols. The MRI Technologist 3 is able to mentor less experienced team members and students in MRI principles and protocols, and provide expert knowledge to assist with developing and implementing policies and protocols specific to MRI. The MRI Technologist 3 may assist other imaging modalities and/or provide on-call coverage as assigned. Tampa General Hospital. Essential Functions:

  • Perform routine and complex MRI exams independently following prescribed protocols and technical guidelines to ensure high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Select and adjust pre-established technical protocols and sequences based on the exam ordered and patient requirements.
  • Operate MRI equipment and ensure proper calibration and performance, including bringing up and taking down scanners as needed.
  • Perform daily QA procedures and ensure optimal scanner performance and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Prepare patients for MRI procedures and ensure patient safety by performing thorough screening, explaining the process, positioning patient properly, and administering contrast media as required.
  • Perform IV starts as needed for contrast injections during MRI exams, ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the procedure.
  • Perform mentoring and precept other team members and students.
  • Archive and restore MRI exams as necessary, ensuring that images are correctly stored for future reference and analysis.
  • Ensure images are transmitted and stored correctly to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for review by Radiologists and healthcare providers.
  • Provide on-call coverage as required.
  • Assist other imaging modalities as required based on appropriate competency, licensure, and certification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Allied Heath Technical Program License/Registration - Issued by Florida or Compact State General Radiographer, Nuclear Medicine Technologist, Radiation Therapy Technologist Certification ARRT-Radiographer or NMTCB- Nuclear Medicine or ARDMS Registered or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (AMRIT) certified and Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Work Experience and Additional Information: Three (3) years progressive responsibility in an MRI diagnostic imaging department.
