Job description

Now Hiring: MPD Choke Operator

Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: MPD Coordinator(s)

Join a Team That Drives Precision & Safety

Are you ready to take your drilling career to the next level? As an MPD Choke Operator, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining well control, optimizing drilling performance, and ensuring safe, efficient operations. This is a high-impact position where your expertise directly contributes to operational success in dynamic drilling environments.

What You’ll Do

Operational Excellence

  • Operate and monitor MPD choke systems to maintain precise wellbore pressure
  • Adjust surface backpressure in real time to ensure optimal bottom hole pressure
  • Collaborate closely with the Driller and Company Representative for seamless operations
  • Perform system checks, calibrations, and functional testing
  • Respond quickly to well conditions such as influx, losses, or pressure changes
  • Accurately log and report all MPD parameters and events

Equipment & Maintenance

  • Ensure MPD equipment and sensors are fully operational and maintained
  • Troubleshoot and assist with repairs of choke systems and related equipment
  • Manage inventory of spare parts and consumables

Safety First

  • Follow all HSE policies and well control procedures
  • Participate in safety meetings, drills, and pre-job briefings
  • Report hazards, near-misses, and equipment issues immediately

Team Collaboration

  • Work alongside Drillers, Mud Engineers, and MPD Supervisors
  • Communicate effectively during shift changes for continuity
  • Provide feedback to improve system performance and operations
What You Bring

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical degree preferred)

Experience

  • 3–5 years in drilling operations
  • At least 2 years in MPD or Underbalanced Drilling

Certifications (Preferred)

  • MPD certification (Premium U)
  • H2S, BOSIET, and other required safety certifications

Key Skills

  • Strong knowledge of drilling hydraulics and well control
  • Experience with automated and manual MPD systems
  • Sharp problem-solving skills under pressure
  • Proficiency in data logging and monitoring software
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Rotational schedules (14/14, 20/10, 28/28)
  • Offshore and/or onshore drilling environments
  • Exposure to high-pressure systems and heavy equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 45 lbs
  • Comfortable working in extreme weather conditions
  • Capable of extended standing, walking, and equipment use
