Pin Lift Molder/Squeezer Molder/Molder
JOB DIMENSIONS:
Job Summary:
Under general supervision, operates sand muller machines, operates pin lift machine to
make various sand molds for castings; fills flasks with sand by hand; air rams around
pattern to make mold; makes castings from patterns ingreen sand process; and performs
related duties as assigned.
Reports to:
Department Supervisor
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operates forklift, and operates hoist to move and position materials, and/or for cleaning and painting work;
  • Regular punctuality, attendance, and absence reporting in conformance with company policies is essential to the successful performance of this position; and
  • Fully comply with company rules, policies, procedures, and safety guidelines to ensure safe and effective operations.

Pin Lift Molder (80-95%):
  • Secures cores from core room;
  • Obtains flask;
  • Secures patterns from Pattern Clerk and follows job orders and specifications;
  • Fills flask with sand and air rams around pattern;
  • Draws off flask carefully;
  • Sets core out on floor;
  • Adds risers to pattern as required; and
  • Identifies mold by code for heat, metal, and related specifications;

Squeezer Molder (5-20%):
  • Receives patterns;
  • Prepares patterns with sand air rammer and squeeze machine;
  • Makes mold hard and clean with correct riser in listed times;
  • Determines correct riser for the job; and
  • Checks completed work for adherence to quality standards.

Molder (5-20%):
  • Receives molds on roller conveyors;
  • Releases molds from patterns;
  • Cleans molds with air gun;
  • Performs air-set molding (works simultaneously on multiple molds while previous molds air dry);
  • Paints mold with painting mix;
  • Makes and cuts gatings and risers;
  • Closes molds; and
  • Uses grinder to open risers.

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:
Any combination equivalent of, but not limited to, the following:
Experience/Training/Education:
Some experience in foundry machine operations, preferably involving mulling or molding
machines, with mulling machine operation experience, including work involving the mixing
of sand and compounds, and some experience in making molds; some experience in the
use of an air rammer; and some experience in setting gates and risers.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to read and interpret job orders and specifications;
  • Knowledge of machinery hazards and safety practices and procedures;
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials risks and emergency response procedures;
  • Ability to set core properly an draw flask off with care;
  • Ability to maintain work concentration and exercise precision;
  • Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers and related work units;
  • Ability to operate a forklift and hoist;
  • Abiltiy to measure and mix sand, water, and elements in proper portions and to proper consistencies;
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; and
  • Ability to operate a pin lift machine;
  • Ability to use basic measuring tools and perform simple measurements; and
  • Ability to maintain work concentration and exercise precision
  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written directions and work orders;
  • Ability to use hand tools and small power tools including air gun and grinder;
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures; and
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials risks and emergency response procedures.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time;
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, stretch, lift, and carry materials, parts, and weights of 50 pounds or less;
  • Ability to move heavier objects with the assistance of co-workers or mechanical devices;
  • Ability to walk/move about on uneven and/or sand-covered surfaces; and
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the job, as defined;

Special Requirements:
  • Appropriate company certification in the operation of a forklift; and
