Module Designer information

Do instructional designers make a lot of money?

Instructional designers typically earn a median salary that varies by experience, education, and industry, with many earning between $50,000 and $80,000 annually. Senior or specialized roles, especially those with expertise in e-learning tools and curriculum development, can earn higher salaries. Compensation also depends on geographic location and the organization’s size and budget.

What is the difference between Module Designer vs Curriculum Developer?

AspectModule DesignerCurriculum Developer
CredentialsTypically requires instructional design or education certificationsOften requires education or instructional design certifications
Work EnvironmentDesigns individual modules for courses or training programsDevelops entire curricula or course structures
Industry UsageUsed in e-learning, corporate training, educationUsed in education, corporate training, e-learning
Search IntentCompare roles related to designing specific course partsCompare roles involved in overall course or program creation

While both roles involve designing educational content, a Module Designer focuses on creating individual course modules, whereas a Curriculum Developer develops comprehensive curricula or entire courses. The roles often overlap but differ in scope and focus, with Module Designers specializing in specific sections and Curriculum Developers overseeing the entire learning program.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A module designer can potentially earn $10,000 a month through freelance work or consulting, especially with specialized skills in software development, e-learning, or technical training. Success depends on experience, portfolio, and demand, as many design roles prioritize skills over formal education. Building a strong portfolio and gaining industry certifications can help achieve high income without a degree.

Is instructional design a good career in 2026?

Instructional design is a growing field with increasing demand for e-learning and corporate training, driven by technological advancements and remote work trends. Professionals in this role should have skills in curriculum development, learning management systems, and multimedia tools, making it a viable career choice in 2026.

How close is AI to replacing instructional designers?

AI tools are increasingly used to assist instructional designers by automating tasks like content generation and data analysis, but they do not fully replace the need for human expertise in designing effective learning experiences. Instructional designers bring creativity, contextual understanding, and learner engagement strategies that AI currently cannot replicate. The role remains essential for developing tailored, impactful training programs, often requiring skills in educational theory and technology integration.

Job description

At Vast, our mission is to contribute to a future where billions of people are living and thriving in space. Vast is developing next-generation space stations to ensure a continuous human presence in space for America and its allies, enabling advanced microgravity research and manufacturing, and unlocking a new space economy for government, corporate, and private customers. Using an incremental, hardware-rich and low-cost approach, Vast is rapidly developing its multi-module Haven Station. Haven Demo's 2025 success made Vast the only operational commercial space station company to fly and operate its own spacecraft. Next, Haven-1 is expected to become the world's first commercial space station when it launches, followed by additional Haven modules to enable permanent human presence by 2030. Our team is all-in, committed to executing our mission safely and on time. If you want to work with the most talented people on Earth furthering space exploration for humanity, come join us.
Vast is looking for a Senior Industrial Designer, reporting to the Senior Manager, Industrial Design, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations.
In this role, you will help define how our vehicles look, feel, and function for the astronauts who live and work in them, translating technical requirements, engineering constraints, and human factors into compelling, production-ready hardware.
This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach location.
Responsibilities:
  • Design cutting-edge space habitat exteriors
  • Design human-centered interior environments and interfaces for astronauts
  • Perform end-to-end industrial design of hardware, from early concept through production
  • Translate vehicle requirements, engineering constraints, and human factors into compelling physical products
  • Develop and communicate design concepts using sketches, CAD models, renderings, and physical prototypes
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams
  • Support CMF (color, material, finish) strategy for both interior and exterior vehicle design
  • Rapidly prototype and iterate to prove design ideas
  • Contribute to design standards, guidelines, and visual language for the company's products
  • Present design work to leadership and stakeholders, clearly articulating trade-offs and rationale

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of industrial design experience
  • Expertise with CAD tools such as NX, SolidWorks, Rhino, or similar
  • Expertise with visualization tools such as KeyShot, Blender
  • Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and design for production
  • Strong grasp of human factors and ergonomics
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills
  • Experience building and testing full-scale prototypes

Preferred Skills & Experience:
  • Experience designing hardware in aerospace, automotive, transportation, or other highly engineered product environments
  • Experience designing both exterior vehicle forms and interior human-centered environments
  • Ability to translate complex technical and human factors requirements into clear design solutions
  • Experience working closely with engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams through development and production
  • Strong capability in concept generation, visualization, CAD development, and physical prototyping
  • Experience contributing to design systems, product standards, or visual language across a hardware portfolio
  • Comfort presenting design rationale, trade-offs, and recommendations to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders

Additional Requirements
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
  • Willingness to work overtime, or weekends to support critical mission milestones
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted
  • Specific certifications, as appropriate

Pay Range: California
$136,120-$193,200 USD
