Job description

Overview

PenFed is hiring a (Hybrid) Director, IT Digital Workplace Engineering to our Tysons, Virginia location.  The Director of IT Digital Workplace Engineering oversees the strategy, architecture, engineering standards and operational support for enterprise technology platforms. This role directs a high-performing engineering team and advances the adoption of Generative AI through Microsoft flagship solutions, including Copilot and Studio. The position evaluates, designs, and supports products and services that align with PenFed’s strategic goals, while partnering with IT, business, application, and security leaders to provide dependable services and a consistent employee technology experience.

  • Lead the IT Employee Experience Technology in delivering collaboration and end-user platforms that support PenFed’s strategic objectives, including Active Directory, Office 365, Teams, SharePoint, AWS, and end-user computing devices.
  • Implement AI-enabled workplace technologies, including Copilot and related studio capabilities.
  • Serve as a key stakeholder in the Microsoft relationship, including contract coordination and vendor engagement.
  • Plan and manage infrastructure services, including cloud, managed services, and IaaS, to meet organizational goals, customer needs, application requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Deliver innovative technology solutions that create business value and improve the user experience.
  • Lead implementation, communication, and adoption of modern workplace technologies and best practices.
  • Maintain technology roadmaps that align platform investments, lifecycle planning, and service improvements with business priorities.
  • Establish technology policies and standards while managing the technology refresh roadmap and schedule.
  • Interact with all levels of internal and/or external leaders.
  • Manage and mentor geographically dispersed IT teams by coaching employees to identify, prioritize, and resolve issues; providing regular mentoring to direct reports; and establishing long-term and short-term goals with measurable progress.

Qualifications

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field (master’s preferred).
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in IT application management.
  • Working knowledge of messaging infrastructure, Active Directory, Office 365, cloud services, SharePoint, and Windows Server OS.
  • Experience with Windows, Linux, VMware, cloud platforms, storage, Active Directory, patching, backup, and recovery is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud technologies, including AWS, Azure, private cloud, Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service, and Software as a Service, is preferred.
  • Experience using AI tools.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience presenting conceptual designs to executives and mid-level management.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Direct supervision of 4–8 IT professionals
  • Matrix management of cross-functional remediation teams
  • Oversight of third-party vendors and service providers

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

Pay Transparency 
The anticipated starting salary range for this role is $121,800.00 - $268,137.00
This position is eligible for an organizational performance based annual bonus, subject to board discretion and approval.
This position is eligible for an individual performance based annual bonus.
