Position Overview

Are you an Electrical Engineer who wants to apply your expertise to advanced aerospace and defense technologies? Join an innovative R&D team in Herndon, VA, and help design, develop, and test cutting-edge electro-optical and laser systems supporting NASA and the U.S. Department of Defense.

As an Electrical Engineer, you will contribute to both near-term and long-term projects involving advanced laser and electro-optical technologies. You’ll work in a collaborative environment where your technical expertise is valued, while having the autonomy to make decisions within your area of responsibility.

This role offers a diverse range of hands-on engineering opportunities, including circuit board development, embedded firmware development, cable and harness design, system integration, testing, troubleshooting, and technical documentation.

You will work across multiple concurrent projects, ranging from small, fast-paced, quick-turn engineering efforts to larger, long-term R&D programs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, integrate, verify, and troubleshoot electronics for advanced electro-optical and laser systems.
  • Develop and support circuit boards and embedded electronic systems.
  • Contribute to FPGA, CPU, and microcontroller firmware development and integration.
  • Design and document electrical cables, harnesses, and interconnects.
  • Perform board-level and system-level integration and testing.
  • Use electrical laboratory equipment to develop, evaluate, and troubleshoot embedded systems.
  • Participate in field tests, experiments, and system demonstrations.
  • Develop engineering documentation and support product verification and upgrades.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams across multiple projects.
  • Apply sound engineering judgment to solve complex technical challenges.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent degree.
  • 5–8 years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
  • Experience with circuit board design, integration, and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic and embedded systems.
  • Experience using electrical laboratory equipment for development and troubleshooting.
  • Willingness to participate in hands-on testing, field experiments, and system integration activities.
  • U.S. citizenship required due to security clearance requirements.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE).
  • Experience developing high-reliability electronics for military and/or space-flight applications.
  • Experience with FPGA/CPLD design, simulation, integration, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience developing, integrating, and troubleshooting embedded CPU/microcontroller firmware.
  • Experience with LiDAR systems.
  • Experience with laser or electro-optical systems.


Compensation

The annual base salary range for this position is $100,000–$160,000. Placement within the range will depend on factors including the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s experience, education and training, key skills, and relevant market and business considerations.
