Two (2) part-time vacancies. Up to 19 hours per week, hours vary based on departmental needs. Successful candidates must reside in the State of Wisconsin.

Under supervision of the Dean or designee, to teach classroom, online and applied courses in the Medical Coding Specialist Technical Diploma Program. Related duties include advising students, evaluating student achievement, developing strategies to enhance student achievement, developing and evaluating curriculum, evaluating program effectiveness, participating in divisional and departmental activities, formulating or assisting in formulating departmental policy and procedures, developing or assisting in development of a program budget, ordering supplies and equipment, maintaining equipment, and other duties as assigned. May be required to teach evenings or weekends.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities. Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program/department evaluation. Manage equipment, supplies and materials.

Assess student performance. Advise students on academic issues. Collaborate with advisory committee in program/department area.

Attend departmental and institutional meetings. Promote the education/training program/department, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to promote educational opportunities at MATC. Support student organizations and activities.

Develop relationships with business and industry. Complete program/department evaluation and follow-up. Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.

Other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Educational Requirements: Must have a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Health Information Management, Health Care Informatics, OR Associate's Degree AS in Health Information Technology, five (5) year (10,000 hours) of experience and training, including one (1) year of Supervision/Management in Health Information Management. {Per Higher Learning Commission Determining Qualified Faculty Assumed Practice B.2.} Occupational Experience Requirement: Must have a minimum of two (2) years of full-time or equivalent (4,000 hours) experience as a Medical Coder

In addition, one of the following must be met: At least one (1) year of work experience must have occurred within the last five (5) years, OR Two (2) years of teaching Medical Coding course work at the post-secondary level within the last five (5) years. {One (1) year of teaching experience equivalent two (2) semesters full-time or four (4) semesters part-time - per State of Wisconsin Legislature Administrative Code TCS3 3.04} Industry or Vendor Certification Requirement: Must have current certification in one (1) of the following: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based (CCS-P) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)

Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC). Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Registration Administration (RHIA). Additional Skills and Responsibilities: Reviews professional and hospital inpatient and outpatient medical record documentation and properly identifies and assigns ICD-10-CM, ICD-10 PCS and CPT-4 codes, DRGs, MS DRGs, Present On Admission (POA) indicators, APCs, and modifiers as well as abstracting these code assignments according to official guidelines.

Keeps current with coding guidelines through self-study, continuing education, seminars and conference attendance and professional journals. Knowledge of internal and external quality review, preferred. Previous teaching experience preferred.

Experience in teaching and/or developing curriculum in a variety of environments including in-person and online. Experience using a variety of instructional methods including: online teaching preferred. Must be able to develop and maintain curriculum currency.

Working knowledge of computers and software related to instructional area including MS Office/Google Suite, data systems, mobile technologies, web conference tools, and social networking; and knowledge of, or willing to learn, Blackboard or similar learning management system (LMS) preferred. Knowledge or experience with engaged and service learning strongly required. Must be able to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.

Must have knowledge of assessment of student academic competency attainment. Must be able to relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social and educational backgrounds. Must embrace and demonstrate Standards of Teaching Excellence in development and delivery of instruction.

Blackboard Ultra - Experience with Blackboard or other web-based course - management systems. Technology-based Instruction - Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology.

Hours: This is a part-time faculty pool position. This is an "applicant pool" posting. Assignments are temporary, not guaranteed, can vary in hours/days, and will depend entirely on course availability and department needs each semester.

Although this is an online course, selected candidate must perform work in the state of Wisconsin. We are seeking candidates with flexibility to teach assignments to include any combination of the following: Instructional Modality: *Online Course Teaching Times: Daytime, evening, and/or weekend classes *Important Note: Instructional delivery method used by this faculty position is defined as being an online course, whereby the course is delivered exclusively via a virtual modality using the Internet and accessed by the student(s) using a Web browser. The course instructor will need to attend in-person any required pathway, department & college-wide meetings (such as MATC Days, Non-Student Contact Days, Coordination Days) as directed by their supervisor.

Successful candidates must reside in the State of Wisconsin. Salary: The starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour.
