Job description

Position Summary: The MRI Technologist operates within a mobile MRI unit providing diagnostic imaging services at Indian Health Service (IHS) facilities. This role requires a highly skilled, self-sufficient technologist capable of managing all aspects of mobile unit operation including setup, patient care, and system takedown while maintaining the highest standards of image quality and patient safety.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform arrival, full setup, and departure of mobile MRI unit with minimal disruption to facility operations
  • Ensure MRI unit operates full days on all scheduled service days
  • Conduct MRI examinations in accordance with ARRT or ARMRIT standards and facility protocols
  • Perform patient screening, positioning, and monitoring throughout imaging procedures
  • Maintain cleanliness of mobile unit and responsible disposal of all waste
  • Maintain accurate personnel and certification records for periodic compliance review
  • Attend and complete required Government orientation prior to providing direct patient care
  • Coordinate with facility staff on patient flow while maintaining sole responsibility for technologist staffing operations
  • Provide Basic Life Support as needed during patient care
Qualifications:
  • Current registration with ARRT (MRI) or ARMRIT required
  • Active BLS certification required - must remain current throughout assignment
  • Experience operating mobile MRI systems strongly preferred
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in remote or rural environments
  • Strong communication skills for coordination with facility staff and patients
Preferred Experience:
  • Prior experience at IHS, tribal, or federal healthcare facilities
  • Familiarity with underserved or rural patient populations
  • Cultural competency working with Native American or Alaska Native communities
Work Environment:
  • Mobile MRI unit operating at IHS facility locations
  • May include remote or rural settings
  • Scheduled rotations with full-day operating expectations
  • Mission-driven environment serving tribal and underserved communities
