MRI Technologist
Location: Big Spring VA Medical Center – Big Spring, Texas

Position Summary
The Military Club (TMC) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced MRI Technologist to support diagnostic imaging services at the Big Spring VA Medical Center. The MRI Technologist will perform high-quality MRI examinations while ensuring patient safety, maintaining compliance with VA policies, and providing exceptional care to our nation's Veterans. This position operates within a mobile MRI environment utilizing a new GE SIGNA Voyager 1.5T MRI system and requires strict adherence to MRI safety standards, screening procedures, and quality assurance protocols.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform MRI examinations in accordance with physician orders and VA protocols.
- Ensure proper patient identification and screening prior to all examinations.
- Maintain MRI safety standards in Zones I-IV.
- Monitor patients throughout MRI procedures.
- Operate and troubleshoot GE MRI equipment.
- Document procedures and patient information accurately within VA systems.
- Maintain compliance with all VA, Joint Commission, OSHA, HIPAA, and MRI safety requirements.
- Complete daily, weekly, and monthly quality assurance checks.
- Assist with emergency response procedures including code situations, quench events, and facility emergencies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional imaging environment.
- Coordinate with radiologists, nursing staff, VA personnel, and fellow MRI technologists.
- Participate in required safety drills, meeting, training, and competency assessments.
- Assist with patient transfers and positioning when appropriate.
- Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or operational issues immediately.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
- Current ARRT Certification in Radiography (R).
- Current ARRT Certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR).
- This is a federal job, Texas State MRI board certification is NOT needed.
- Current BLS Certification.
- Ability to pass VA background investigation and credentialing requirements.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a VA PIV badge.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- MRI physics and imaging principles.
- MRI safety and screening procedures.
- Contrast administration procedures.
- Emergency response procedures.
- Patient care and communication skills.
- Electronic medical record documentation.
- Knowledge of VA and federal healthcare environments preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift patients and equipment as required.
- Ability to safely assist patients onto MRI tables.
- Ability to work in a mobile imaging environment.
- Ability to respond quickly during emergency situations.
Preferred but NOT Needed Qualifications
- Two (2) years MRI experience
- VA or federal healthcare experience.
- GE SIGNA Voyager experience.
- Mobile MRI experience.
- Advanced MRI protocol knowledge.
- Texas State MRI Board certified
