Temporary Senior Learning Experience Designer & Facilitator

Joby Aviation

Santa Cruz, CA • Hybrid

Contractor

Posted 10 days ago

Job description

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.

We are seeking an innovative Learning Experience Designer & Facilitator to support the end-to-end development of learning programs—from design through delivery and reinforcement. This role goes beyond traditional training approaches to create and facilitate visual, interactive, and behavior-focused learning solutions that drive measurable change across our organization.
With a focus on enabling results and driving effective collaboration, this role spans leadership development, interpersonal and professional skills, and technical training. The ideal candidate is a highly self-directed creative professional who thrives in ambiguity, moves fluidly across project types, turns complexity into clarity, and takes pride in representing Joby Learning at its best. This is a hybrid (2/3 days a week) role based primarily in an office environment (Santa Cruz, Marina, or San Carlos) with occasional travel to other Joby sites for needs assessment and program delivery.

This is a temporary role, anticipated to last 6 months.

Learning Experience Design

  • Partner with stakeholders to align learning solutions with business priorities and participant needs.
  • Apply adult learning principles to design experiences that drive sustained behavior change.
  • Independently research and develop evidence-based learning solutions across diverse domains, including when subject-matter expertise is not readily available.
  • Translate complex behavioral science, technical, and organizational concepts into practical, actionable learning experiences.
  • Develop assessment strategies that measure learning transfer and performance improvement.
  • Develop stealth learning opportunities that integrate seamlessly into daily workflows.
  • Coordinate program logistics and communications.

Facilitation & Program Delivery

  • Facilitate workshops, practice labs, case studies, team-building, and discussions that drive active learning and real-world application.
  • Adapt facilitation approach to diverse audiences — from frontline teams to senior leaders.
  • Manage session preparation, delivery, and follow-through.
  • Manage program schedules and track program effectiveness.

Multimedia & Content Development

  • Produce visually compelling learning materials using graphic design, video, and interactive media.
  • Design and develop actionable guides and visual learning materials that promote immediate application.
  • Create micro-learning and just-in-time learning resources accessible across platforms.
  • Leverage AI tools to accelerate research and design processes.
  • Ensure materials meet accessibility standards and accommodate diverse learning preferences.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Learning Sciences, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of experience designing adult learning experiences with demonstrated impact.
  • Strong facilitation skills across varied audiences.
  • Proven ability to independently scope, research, and develop high-quality learning content.
  • Proficiency in multimedia design tools and modern learning technologies (graphics, interactive elements, etc.).
  • Well-informed of emerging trends in learning technology and instructional design methodologies.
  • Strong proficiency in instructional design software and multimedia creation tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-change environment while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Collaborative team player who takes pride in representing Joby Learning and elevating how learning is perceived across Joby.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of learning management systems and mobile learning platforms.

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Adult Learning, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with leadership development, professional skills, and technical training programs.
  • Experience with video content creation and editing (Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or Synthesia).
  • Experience with podcast production and audio content creation.
  • Familiarity with performance consulting methodologies.
  • Knowledge of accessibility guidelines and inclusive design principles.
  • Experience in manufacturing, aviation, or similar industrial environments.
  • Portfolio demonstrating creative, non-traditional learning solutions across multiple content domains.

The target base pay for this position is $57 - $94/yr. The compensation will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
