Performs various types of manual labor. Operates light equipment and trucks in the maintenance of streets, parks, and airport, and provides maintenance to the City storm sewer system.
Candidate Minimum Required Qualifications:1. High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
2. Valid MN Class B CDL License with endorsements for airbrakes and tankers, OR candidate must have the ability to attain a valid licensure and endorsements within 60 days of hire.
3. One (1) year experience in an area of construction, such as carpentry, welding, landscape, masonry, or asphalt paving.
4. One (1) year experience in the operation of trucks and light equipment.
5. Must maintain a 30-minute travel/response time while obeying all traffic laws and speed limits to the Street Maintenance Facility located at 901 Oak Street.
Eligibility for Hire: Employment is conditional upon successful completion and passage of a criminal history background check, driver's license verification, FMCSA Clearinghouse Query, a pre-employment physical, a pre-employment drug screening, and reference checks to determine suitability for employment.
Pay range at hire: $26.77 - $28.53 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.
Schedule: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday - Friday; some work may be outside the regular scheduled hours. The employees in this position must be able to work a flexible work schedule to include nights, weekends, and holidays to perform snow removal, provide emergency or planned city services, etc.

Essential Functions1. Perform manual to semi-skilled duties in the maintenance and repair of municipal streets, parks, athletic fields, storm sewers, airport, and other public work facilities to assure the general public's safety.
2. Operate a variety of equipment associated with public works maintenance and repair such as: pickups, dump trucks, mowers, tractors, bucket truck, water truck, skid loaders, soil compactor, forklift, tack wagon, roller, plow, sander blower, vactor, paint gun, chipper, welder and torch, and other related equipment.
3. Perform snow plowing, street sanding, and street painting.
4. Perform asphalt repair, concrete repair, mowing, tree trimming, landscaping, and other related duties.
5. Perform electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, and other general maintenance duties on public buildings and facilities.
6. Perform daily maintenance and inspections on vehicles and equipment as required.
7. Safely operate a variety of hand tools and equipment.
8. Attendance is an essential function of this position.
9. Perform related work as required.

- Knowledge of building repair, plumbing, carpentry, heating, and roofing.

- Knowledge and skill in basic preventative maintenance and making repairs on equipment used in this position.
- Ability to understand and perform street maintenance activities, including patching, black topping, manhole maintenance, storm sewer operation, snow plowing, sanding, street sweeping, general summer and winter maintenance, and street inventory.
- Ability to understand and perform parks maintenance activities, including turf renovation, irrigation, mowing, field/court maintenance, shelter building maintenance, watering, tree and shrub maintenance, play equipment area maintenance, and general summer/winter park maintenance.
- Ability to understand and perform water and sewer maintenance activities including sanitary and storm sewers, and catch basin systems.
- Ability to operate in an efficient and safe manner all equipment and vehicles required for this position.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

12 Paid HolidaysPaid Sick Leave The City offers a paid sick leave benefit in the event of an employee's illness, injury, or for safety leave. Sick leave may also be used for immediate family illness / injuries and medical appointments in accordance with Minnesota laws. All full-time employees earn paid sick leave at a rate equal to 8 hours per month. Reference the Personnel Policy manual for accrual maximums. Upon retirement / resignation from the City, unused accumulated sick leave is distributed to an employee in accordance with the schedule provided in the Personnel Policy manual.
Personal Leave Full-time employees are granted 12 hours each calendar year (no carryover) to conduct personal business (i.e., appointments, attendance at a funeral, etc.).
Funeral / Bereavement Leave Employees are granted a maximum of 3 consecutive working days for each emergency, up to 40 hours per calendar year (no carryover), for funeral/bereavement leave.
Medical Insurance The City offers comprehensive medical/health insurance to eligible employees through Blue Cross Blue Shield of MN. Insurances become effective the 1st of the month following a new employee's date of hire for eligible employees (full-time classification).

Long Term Disability (LTD) Insurance Long-term disability insurance is an insurance policy that protects an employee from loss of income in the event that he or she is unable to work due to illness, injury, or accident for a long period of time. The City provides coverage through Madison National Life Insurance Company, 60% of monthly salary in event of long-term disability up to maximum of $7,000/month. The City pays the premium costs on the employee's behalf.
