Job description

MLB Network seeks a Manager, Accounting to manage and provide leadership for the Accounting Department. They must have comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles, excellent communications skills, the ability to manage and motivate a team, and build and maintain effective working relationships across the organization. The Manager, Accounting will help to create and implement accounting policies and practices and assist in the communication of these policies to the various departments at MLB Network.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the oversight of the Company's accounting initiatives and enforce integrity of accounting procedures.
  • Maintain financial records through the Company's accounting system, including general ledger tasks and fixed assets (including maintenance of chart of accounts).
  • Provide leadership and manage the daily activities of the Company's staff accountant.
  • Review supporting journal entries in the general ledger system for the monthly, quarterly, and financial close processes.
  • Review coding on employee expense reports. Approve expense reports in accordance with Company policy up to a certain dollar level.
  • Review and approve invoice coding in accordance with the Company's chart of accounts.
  • Review accuracy of affiliate revenue reports and advertising revenue for the monthly close process.
  • Share responsibility of the annual financial statement audit and have active communication with the audit team.
  • Manage monthly and quarterly financial closes.
  • Review quarterly financial reports including cash flow and fixed asset roll-forward.
  • Monitor tax compliance and payments, which requires active communication with Ernst & Young MLBN's tax advisors.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels throughout the organization, with emphasis on collaborative problem-solving that balances regulatory requirements with business opportunity.
  • Effectively communicate with co-workers, management, vendors and others in a courteous and professional manner.
  • It is expected that the Manager, Accounting will maintain and increase their knowledge in the accounting discipline, as well as with the overall business on an ongoing basis
  • Support special projects as assigned.
  • Other such duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in accounting.
  • Must be able to work independently (with minimal supervision) to ensure timely and accurate completion of projects.
  • Strong managerial and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to initiate and maintain collaborative working relationships, both within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.
  • Must have strong time management skills with ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects.
  • Must have strong organizational, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent technical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Experience with a general ledger system such as Oracle Fusion is preferred.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Able to maintain confidential information.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to function as an effective team member.
  • Demonstrate the tact, diplomacy, decisiveness, and superior people skills required in the pressurized environment of live television.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and/or kneel for extended periods of time.
  • Possess the manual dexterity needed to effectively create required work product.
  • Possess the visual acuity needed to effectively create required work product.
  • Possess the auditory acuity needed to effectively create required work product.
  • Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned work location.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA license required.

  • Sr. Manager, Accounting

Pay Range: $100,000 - $115,000 annually
