Work EnvironmentRemote mining sites, rotational scheduleOn-site management, office and field work
Employer & Industry UsageMining companies, remote operationsMining companies, site management

Mine Fly In Fly Out workers typically hold safety and mining certifications and work on remote sites with rotational schedules. What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mine Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) Worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mine Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) worker, you generally need relevant trade qualifications or mining certifications, physical fitness, and experience in mining operations or heavy machinery. Familiarity with safety management systems, mining-specific software, and equipment such as haul trucks or drilling rigs is commonly required. Strong soft skills include adaptability, resilience, teamwork, and effective communication, especially given the remote work environment and shift structures. These skills and qualities are crucial for maintaining safety, productivity, and well-being while working in challenging and isolated conditions.

What are Mine Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) jobs?

Mine Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) jobs are positions where employees are flown to remote mining sites for work periods, commonly for several days or weeks, and then flown back home for rest periods. This arrangement allows mining companies to access skilled labor for operations in locations far from major towns or cities. FIFO jobs are common in the mining industry, especially in regions like Australia and Canada, and typically involve jobs such as equipment operators, engineers, and support staff. While the pay can be attractive, FIFO work can be physically and mentally demanding due to long shifts and time away from family.

What are some common challenges faced by Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) mine workers, and how can they be managed?

Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) mine workers often face challenges such as extended time away from family, adapting to shift work, and maintaining a work-life balance. The remote and sometimes harsh environments can also take a toll on physical and mental health. Many companies offer support services like counseling, recreational activities, and flexible rosters to help manage these challenges. Building strong communication with loved ones and participating in onsite wellness programs can also greatly improve the FIFO experience.

Job description

Associate Orthodontist

Join a patient focused, family centered orthodontic practice

Wentz Orthodontics โ€“ Fairbanks and North Pole, Alaska

Are you an orthodontist looking for an opportunity with strong clinical support, efficient systems, and the flexibility of a fly-in/fly-out schedule? Wentz Orthodontics is excited to welcome an associate orthodontist to join our patient centered practice โ€“ ideal for a clinician who values high quality care, teamwork, and balance.

At Wentz Orthodontics, our mission is to create confident, healthy smiles while delivering an exceptional patient experience. For over 30 years, we've served the Fairbanks and North Pole communities under the leadership of Dr. Todd Wentz, who brings more than three decades of orthodontic experience.

We are proud of our welcoming culture, highly trained team, and commitment to clinical excellence. Our practice is built on long-term relationships, strong referrals, and efficient systems that allow doctors to focus on what matters most โ€“ delivering exceptional care to every patient. Our role offers full-time hours or the flexibility to fly-in and fly-out for 1-2 weeks per month, which may be ideal for someone who wants to prioritize work life balance without sacrificing compensation.

Why Fairbanks, Alaska?

Located in the heart of Interior Alaska, Fairbanks offers a truly unique blend of career opportunity, lifestyle flexibility, and natural beauty. Here's why you'll love working here:

  • Fly-In, Fly-Out Flexibility โ€“ Prefer to live elsewhere? Fairbanks is well-suited for a fly-in/fly-out schedule, giving you the ability to maximize earning potential in a high-demand market while maintaining your home base.
  • One-of-a-Kind Natural Experiences โ€“ Witness the Northern Lights in winter and the midnight sun in summer โ€“ experiences you simply won't find anywhere else.
  • Outdoor Adventure at Your Doorstep โ€“ From hiking, fishing, and kayaking to skiing and snowmobiling, this is a year-round playground for anyone who loves the outdoors.
  • Tight-Knit, Welcoming Community โ€“ Build meaningful relationships in a community that values connection, trust, and long-term care. Patients here are loyal, appreciative, and engaged.
  • High Demand, Meaningful Impact โ€“ As a regional hub, Fairbanks offers access to a broad patient base with strong demand for orthodontic care, allowing you to make a real difference while growing your career.
  • Space, Balance & Quality of Life โ€“ Enjoy a slower pace, less congestion, and the kind of balance that's hard to find in larger urban centers.
About the Role:

As an associate orthodontist, you will be a key member of the practice, contributing to both clinical excellence and overall patient experience. You will work with Dr. Todd Wentz, a long-time Alaska resident and well-known orthodontist in the community, supported by a high-performing and well-established team.

In this role, you will lead treatment planning and care while delivering an exceptional patient experience rooted in trust. You will play an important role in educating patients on the value of orthodontic treatment, helping guide them through their care journey and supporting case acceptance.

What We Offer through Corus Orthodontists Doctor Excellence Program:

  • Mentorship That Matters โ€“ Work closely alongside Dr. Todd Wentz and receive personalized coaching from other top Corus doctors in clinical care, leadership, and business.
  • Tailored Clinical Development Plan โ€“ Access a roadmap with key clinical milestones and resources designed to support your professional growth.
  • Connection & Collaboration โ€“ Tap into a vibrant community of like-minded orthodontists for ongoing learning and support.
  • Robust Rewards โ€“ Enjoy a competitive day rate, bonus opportunities, a fly-in-fly-out compensation program where applicable, and access to a comprehensive benefits package.
  • Path to Partnership โ€“ A clear and supported route to becoming a principal doctor, at your own pace.

At Corus, we don't just offer associate doctor positions - we offer a true pathway to partnership. Our model is designed to make ownership more accessible to you through a lower, more flexible buy-in structure, giving you the chance to build equity without taking on the full weight of running a practice alone.

As part of our network, you'll have access to top doctor mentors who are invested in your growth, as well as a community that values continuing education, clinical excellence, and the latest technological advancements. When the time is right, you'll have the opportunity to step into ownership with a significant equity stake in a growing, doctor-led company, all while knowing you're supported by a collaborative network that shares resources, expertise, and a vision for the future of orthodontics.

If you're ready to build your future in a place that offers flexibility, purpose, and a truly unique lifestyle, apply today and take the next step in your orthodontic career.
