Job description

Position: Assistant Mill Supervisor (1st Shift), Hastings, MN

Hours: 4:30am -  3:15pm

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

 Lead and direct employees, meet production goals, verify quality, prepare for shift transitions, and maintain a safe and clean department. Assist Mill Supervisor as needed. 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Lead: direct employees in Mill department; this is an on-floor position with 100% of time working within department
  2. Safety: enforce safety rules and policies, monitor the workplace for safety violations and potential hazards, and help implement new safety programs
  3. Efficiency: optimize production processes to meet production goals in the Mill department
  4. Quality: verify quality of parts and assemblies using the Quality Assurance Program
  5. Department Functions: set up and perform any functions within the department, member of inventory team
  6. Continuous Improvement – 6S: ensure department cleanliness
  7. Maintenance: ensure maintenance of equipment
  8. Shift Transitions: organize shift transitions
  9. Assist Mill Supervisor
  10. Meet Elevated Attendance Standards


RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Able to lift and carry 25 pounds constantly
  2. Able to lift and carry 50 pounds frequently
  3. Able to stand, walk, bend, twist for the entire shift
  4. Able to read a tape measure
  5. Able and willing to work outside normal shift schedule, up to 7 days a week if needed
  6. CPR and First Aid certified within 1 year
  7. Possess basic computer skills
  8. LOTO trained for all machines in mill within 3 months
  9. Forklift certified through Quality One within 3 months
  10. Able to communicate effectively with basic English


JOB HAZARD ANALYSIS:

  1. May be exposed to noise levels greater than or equal to 85 decibels for up to 10 hours. 
  2. Must be able to work in moderate levels of wood dust.
  3. May be exposed to moderate levels of carbon monoxide.
