Job Description
We are seeking a talented Naval Architect ready to apply practical engineering skills to design new vessels, develop modifications to improve existing vessels, navigate an increasingly complex regulatory framework, and help clients solve unique problems in marine environments.
We are looking for candidates who:
  • Are passionate about the maritime industry.
  • Thrive in a culture of collaboration, innovation, and integrity.

  • Are motivated to identify and pursue internal and external professional growth opportunities, including areas outside their specific discipline.
  • Have direct experience communicating with maritime regulatory agencies, and/or serving on vessels, and/or solving complex problems as a marine salvage engineer, and/or working in a shipyard.

Responsibilities:
  • Apply specific technical knowledge of hydrostatics, stability, and structural analyses.
  • Understand and apply knowledge of the maritime regulatory guidance and submittal processes, field work (shipchecking and shipboard systems performance surveys), shipyard practices, and contract specifications.
  • Manage small to medium-sized projects including client communications, leading engineering teams, assigning tasks, managing scope and budget, scheduling, and developing proposals. Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standards, techniques, procedures, and criteria
  • Understand and contribute to resolution of a wide range of technical issues outside traditional naval architecture disciplines, including marine engineering, machine design, and drafting.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and other team members.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum four (4) years of experience in the maritime sector, consulting engineering, or service as a USCG officer is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) Licensure. Applicants without a PE license who would be eligible to take the licensing exam in their first year may be considered.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Rhino3D, GHS, and Microsoft Office software packages.
  • Strong communication, technical writing, teamwork abilities, and excellent problem solving skills.
  • Experience designing to regulatory rules such as American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Rules and Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 46: Shipping.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. Due to project restrictions, Glosten will only consider applicants with unrestricted access to work in the United States or those eligible for TN visas.
  • Some travel and fieldwork are required. Some project assignments may require a valid driver's license, TWIC card, and/or current passport.
  • This position is ideally based in one of our office locations (Seattle, WA; Bellingham, WA; or Providence, RI). Employees hired for an in-person role will be eligible for participation in the company's hybrid remote work policy after 90 days of employment.
