JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE 

  • Providing age appropriate care to assigned patients: medical, surgical, pediatric, geriatric, emergency, same day surgery, swing bed, outpatients, respite 
  • Applying knowledge of basic growth and development in patient care 
  • Incorporating knowledge of the nursing process in the performance of patient assessments 
  • Providing care based on the physical, psychosocial, emotional, and spiritual needs of the patient 

ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Monitors and interprets patient status/information based on knowledge of growth, development and age; recognizes basic changes based on data collected and keeps RN and medical provider informed 
  • Provision of care is consistent with evidence based practices and principles of infection control 
  • Prioritizes, initiates and completes appropriate interventions based on patient need 
  • Evaluates patient response to action plan and intervenes appropriately Recognizes personal/self clinical skills/knowledge and appropriately seeks assistance to meet patient needs 
  • Demonstrates ability to administer medication and treatments safely and effectively 
  • Demonstrates the ability to use, maintain and troubleshoot patient care equipment 
  • Notifies medical providers of patient care needs in a timely manner (abnormal lab values, EKG changes, etc.) 
  • Provides appropriate patient/family education based on assessed needs Completes all patient care documentation legibly, according to policy (i.e., nurses notes, admission assessments, care plan, referrals, MAR, etc.) 
  • Must be available to take one on-call shift per pay period.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Required Education and Experience 

  • Associates Degree in Nursing 

Required Licensure and Certifications 

  • Current licensure as Licensed Practical Nurse by the Iowa State Board of Nursing
  • BLS
  • ACLS, PALS (ACLS & PALS completed within 12 months of employment) will be acquired and maintained.
