Job description

Bering-Alaka`ina Holdings, LLC is looking for a Microbiologist I to provide support for our government customer in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Potential for limited Telework upon customer approval.

Potential of Travel within Continental United States (CONUS).

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical support related to the detection and characterization of arboviral diseases.
  • Support assignments and deadlines set by the Virology and/or Diagnostics and Reference Team Leads, or designee.
  • Responsible for preparing assignments as directed, meeting all deadlines, supporting management of core sequencing activities, and assisting with bioinformatics applications to inform public health action.
  • Assignments include the following tasks related to the detection of arboviral diseases and other infectious diseases:
  • Conducts highly specialized methods for the surveillance of arbovirus infections.
  • Conducts inventory management, accessioning, and regulatory compliance activities and management of sequencing core activities.
  • Participates in emergency responses as needed including but not limited to supporting public health response and research activities related to viral vector-borne pathogens and related diseases.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Must have a Bachelors in Biologics, Microbiology, or related discipline.
  • Preferred a MS in Biologics, Microbiology, or related discipline.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have minimal of four (4) years relevant experience.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance and possess the ability to interact professionally with CDC staff, partners, and visitors.
  • Must participate in training on animal use and other lab-related training provided by CDC at no cost, including respirator or PAPR (powered air purifying respirator) use training.
  • Must complete Respiratory Fit Test and Training upon initial employment and annually; Consists of a respiratory medical clearance, pulmonary function evaluation, spirometry, respirator fit testing (quantitative) and training on the use of a respirator or PAPR.
  • Must be willing and able to maintain an enrollment in an Occupational Health Program (OHP) to meet mandatory federal requirements associated with work involving select agent and/or animal use compliance.
  • Must be willing and able to complete the CDC non-disclosure agreement.
  • Must have experience with Vector-Borne Diseases caused by mosquitoes, ticks, or fleas. 

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a background investigation and obtain a CDC Personal Identity Verification (PIV) badge to access Government facilities and systems.
