Job Title: Network Support Engineer
Reports to: Supervisor, Network Services
Status: Full-Time/Exempt
Location: Central Florida or Southwest Florida
Position Summary:
Provisioning and maintenance of Summit broadband services and infrastructure. This function provides Tier 3 troubleshooting support to address customer and network issues. Performs inspection routines to ensure that data systems are within approved tolerances. Maintain current inventory of system resources (ports, blades, chassis, etc.).
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Performs provisioning and maintenance/ repair; including, but not limited to the following equipment:
  • - Juniper MX 240, 480 AND 960 routers
  • - Juniper EX 4200 switches
  • - Juniper SRX series firewalls
  • - Accedian Metro Nodes and NIDS
  • - Ciena NIDs - 3900 series
  • - Ciena Metro Ethernet -5170 series
  • - Nokia IXR
  • Reviews service orders and trouble tickets closed by the department for accuracy and then perform root cause analysis. Ensures that all data circuits are being monitored in Summit surveillance systems
  • Performs quality control assessment of provisioning and maintenance upgrades to ensure they meet company standards. Equipment includes but is not limited to: Juniper equipment (routers, switches, firewalls), Accedian Metro Nodes and NIDS, Ciena Nodes and NIDs
  • Communicates with other departments to ensure troubles and service orders are worked in a timely manner
  • Ensures that the Network Operations Center has monitoring and access capabilities for all equipment; verifies alarming at regular intervals
  • Performs RFC2544 testing
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on service failures as necessary
  • Upgrade of Network Elements as necessary
  • Performs configuration backups of network equipment as necessary
  • Creates MOPs (method of procedures) and submits/implements RFCs (Request for Changes) as part of the Change Management system
  • Performs network maintenance, intrusive testing and repairs at times which cause the least inconvenience to customers, usually in scheduled maintenance window
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure effective operation of department
  • This position will be required to participate in an on-call rotation

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Network Engineering or Equivalent experience
- 8+ years of provisioning telecommunications systems or related industry experience
- Expert knowledge of provisioning and troubleshooting of IP routing and switching equipment - preferably Cisco and Juniper platforms
- Expert knowledge and experience in layer 3 routing protocols : RIPv2, OSPF or IS-IS, MPLS and BGP
- SME Metro-Ethernet devices and circuitry
- SME VLAN operations
- SME TCP/IP, PPPoE and cable modems
- SME VoIP / Genband
- SME Knowledge of telecom standards
- Proficient in all MS Office programs
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks/projects as well as lead small, directed projects
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and provide leadership for other team members
- Must be able to work various hours as required
- Must be able to pass criminal, MVR, and drug testing
Additional Qualifications Desired:
- Juniper/Cisco certifications (CCNA or JNCIA) or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of DOCSIS 2.0/3.0 and Packet Cable standards
- Knowledge of MetroEthernet Standards
- Knowledge of telecom standards TDM, WDM, DWDM, SONET
