Job description

Job Title: HFC Lead & Field Technician
Job Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Field Service Supervisor

Position Summary

Our client is seeking an experienced HFC Lead & Field Technician responsible for residential and commercial installations, service calls, quality control inspections, and leading all HFC-related activities. This individual will also perform plant construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting on twisted pair, HFC, and fiber optic networks while collaborating with internal support teams and contractors to resolve technical and field-related issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, guidelines, and safety practices while performing field and office duties.

  • Lead all HFC mainline maintenance and troubleshooting activities.

  • Lead HFC projects and create and maintain all related documentation.

  • Develop and execute HFC plant maintenance schedules, including semi-annual sweeps and inspections, in coordination with supervisors, departments, and contractors.

  • Operate and maintain a DOCSIS 3.1 HFC network environment.

  • Validate HFC plant designs and perform work under the guidance of supervisors and third-party consultants as required.

  • Maintain and document HFC spare equipment inventory in coordination with inventory management.

  • Train and mentor team members on HFC troubleshooting, splicing, and plant maintenance procedures.

  • Perform fiber optic mainline maintenance and troubleshooting as directed.

  • Install, test, and verify phone, data, and video services for residential and commercial customers.

  • Professionally represent the company while responding to service calls and resolving customer issues.

  • Identify, document, and escalate recurring network or plant-related issues.

  • Maintain regular communication with dispatch regarding location and work status throughout the day.

  • Participate in an after-hours rotating on-call schedule.

  • Learn and assist with fiber splicing and fiber construction activities as needed.

  • Support additional field and operational duties as business needs require.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • In-depth knowledge of HFC mainline equipment, plant maintenance, and troubleshooting.

  • Strong understanding of HFC network architecture and maintenance practices.

  • Experience working with DOCSIS 3.1 technology.

  • Intermediate knowledge of fiber optic troubleshooting.

  • Ability to coordinate teams during troubleshooting activities.

  • Ability to train and cross-train technicians in HFC and fiber technologies.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for documentation and reporting.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent customer service and professional presentation skills.

  • Strong knowledge of telecommunications services, wiring standards, power systems, equipment, and safety practices.

  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.

  • Intermediate computer skills for troubleshooting, documentation, reporting, and system verification.

  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and configurations.

  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.

  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including overtime, evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations.

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and climb ladders.

Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience with wiring installations.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a telecommunications environment.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with HFC mainline plants.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience training or mentoring technicians in troubleshooting and maintenance.

  • Clean driving record and ability to pass background screening.
